Remember the Killers? Somebody Told Me and Mr. Brightside , which is still everyone’s favorite song from the early 2000s? They’re still around and for ten years straight around the holidays they release their own Christmas song and accompanying music video. But you don’t have to search the web anymore to find the best ones because here are the 10 best Killers Christmas songs.
10. Happy Birthday Guadalupe (2009)
Are they trying to be Feliz Navidad? Because it’s not working. Good song, not one of my favorites, though I will admit it does have an air of mysteriousness and can get stuck in your head easily. But it's not a Christmas song.
9. Joseph, Better You Than Me (2008)
It's so slow and doesn't actually feature any of the Killers in the music video. The song just chronicles the story of Christmas, something almost every Christian learns about each year. Elton John and Neil Tennant do make this song better, I will give them that.
8. Christmas in LA (2013)
Another slow song that does feature Owen Wilson but he's not his usual funny self. The beginning of the video is like an indie movie trailer that thinks it's more revolutionary than it actually is. Maybe it's because I'm not from LA or ever had to spend Christmas alone, but this song does not bring me any Christmas cheer.
7. I Feel It In My Bones (2012)
The second part of three in which Santa tries to kill lead singer Brandon Flowers (watch Don't Shoot Me Santa to understand what I'm saying). It does get dark at some points and at others it feels like an 80s power ballad, but Brandon in a leather jacket makes up for the creepy end credits.
6. A Great Big Sled (2006)
The first Killers Christmas song that started them all. It's very much the Killers style of music and it is nostalgic. I'm cutting them some slack because this was their first, but it's not quite up to par with some of the later songs, featured later on in this list.
5. Boots (2010)
This reminds me a bit of an obscure, early Beatles song, which could be a good or bad thing, depending on your style. As much as I like to see Brandon clean shaven and trying to hide his smile, and a father with his family on Christmas, I still wonder what the main guy did to leave his wife and two kids.
4. Dirty Sledding (2015)
The most recent Christmas release by the band and the last in the Santa vs. Brandon saga, it gives off a Beach Boys vibe. Again it features the relationship between Santa and Brandon but they make up at the end and isn't that what Christmas is all about? Bonus trivia: Matthew Gray Gubler, Dr. Spencer Reid from Criminal Minds directs the video.
3. A Cowboy’s Christmas Ball (2011)
This song defines what kind of a band the Killers are now and it's just a feel good Christmas song that makes me want to dosey-doe. It's a better Cowboys and Aliens with a beat you can really tap your foot to. Plus it doesn't hurt that Brandon just sits there for a good deal of the time and smolders at the camera.
2. Don’t Shoot Me Santa (2007)
The one that started it all, this is the beginning of Santa's quest to kill the Killers. An instant classic, it can be dark at times (think a Fall Out Boy music video) and you'll get weird looks from people who don't know the song but it's a great Christmas song. Brandon's 'whoo' in the video always kills me.
1. Joel, the Lump of Coal (2014)
This is a modern day Rudolph or Frosty the Snowman coupled with an equally classic message. Thanks to help from Jimmy Kimmel, this is one of the best songs and videos because of the classic stop motion animation and it is super catchy. Everything about this song makes me happy and feel very festive.
So there you go, you now have ten more Christmas songs to add to your playlist and annoy your family with. You're welcome.
