To My Best Friend’s Parents, Thank You For Your Daughter And Treating Me Like Your Own

Thank you for accepting me into your family without a second thought, and for treating me like your second child.

My best friend and I are extremely similar, which means that our parents have had to deal with our weirdness for our entire lives. I know that I was a freaky little kid, so I imagine my best friend was the same. If she was anything like me as a kid, her parents went through some insane things for a good 10+ years.

So, I just wanted to take this moment to say thank you.

Thank you for not only giving me my best friend but for not strangling her when she smarted off to you. Thank you for being amazing parents and raising such an incredible woman who cares so deeply for so many. Thank you for giving her every opportunity to be her best self and for teaching her to believe in herself above all else.

Thank you for accepting me into your family without a second thought, and for treating me like your second child.

You didn't have to do any of that, yet you did.

You're incredible parents, and your daughter's actions and personality traits reflect that.

She is the best friend I've ever had, and you're the best set of second parents that I could ever hope to have.

Your daughter brings me such joy and allows me to be myself in a way that I've never been in front of anyone. You did such an incredibly amazing job raising her, and you can tell that she loves and respects y'all so much.

Your daughter has been there for me when I felt nobody else was, and she has helped me through a number of rough times. She's my saving grace, and you're one of the main reasons that she's such a blessing.

In the short time during which your daughter and I have been friends, my life has changed for the better.

Having someone in my life that I can confide in without fear of judgment is the most freeing and lovely experience in the entire world. Your daughter is that person for me, and without her in my life, I KNOW I wouldn't be the person that I am today.

She is a loving, kind, hysterical, intelligent, beautiful, talented, incredible woman. And most of that is thanks to the wonderful parents and everything they've done behind the scenes.

So, thank you.

Thank you for giving me someone to laugh with.

Thank you for giving me someone to cry with.

Thank you for giving me someone to stay up until 4 a.m., when we have an 8 a.m., with.

Thank you for giving me someone to travel the world with.

Thank you for giving me my other half, my soulmate essentially, at a time in my life when I needed it more than anything.

Thank you for loving me as a second daughter and taking me into your family without question.

Thank you for gracing the world with your daughter. It truly doesn't deserve her.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
