What makes someone a best friend? Well, that can depend on the set of people. Everyone’s expectations are a little different. While growing up, a lot of the time, you don’t keep that best friend around forever. They may still be around, but the closeness you once shared has diminished.
There’s nothing wrong with that, while I’ll always love those that I called my best friend at one time or another, I went through a time where I thought I just wasn’t meant to have one.
You came out of nowhere, not like a storm, but like sunshine and warmth in February. Certainly unexpected, but a blessing in disguise. Both struggling to find ourselves, we found each other in the process. In doing so, we helped each other. Pushing through the obstacles as a team to achieve the happiness we both knew we deserved.
We gave each other a new sense of hope for our future. While looking for myself, I found a lifelong best friend along the way. The encouragement, the tremendous support, the stomach wrenching laughter. Hands wiping tear stained faces. Arms wide open. There’s nothing I could ask more for.
Someone to share memories with. Someone who will stay for both the good and the bad. Someone who will tell me when I’m being stupid and make me realize all the things I was blinded to.
You are more than a best friend. You have become my person. Someone that I know will be there to catch me when I fall, and vice versa. You are family. Words could never rightfully describe my gratitude to faith for bringing us together.
My promise to you, I promise to take away the pain, never inflict it. You will receive the love you deserve, and I will continuously show you the ways you deserve that love. I promise to wipe the tears, to be there when times get rough.
I promise to never stray, no matter what life throws our way. I promise to keep my head up, to walk strong like you always tell me. I promise to listen to your words and turn them into actions. I promise that best friends is what we shall stay, till life decides otherwise.
Thank you for being swept in by the spring wind, for showing me that you can get what you give. When you give it to the right person. Thank you for being you and for being,
my best friend.
