The Best Events At Rider University, According To Rider Students

In This Article:

Universities, high schools, middle schools and elementary schools all have their trademark events in which make their school unique. I distinctly remember the male beauty pageant we held every year for the senior class titled, Mr. RHS. At Rider, there are numerous events that cater to students and their various interests.

I decided to conduct an Instagram poll to see which on-campus events Rider students like best. This poll consisted of six various activities on Rider's campus.

Cranberry Fest vs. R Factor

Victoria Mysholowsky

By popular vote, Cranberry Fest was the fan favorite! It's an event where a live band plays, there's beer and wine for students over 21, and numerous types of food to taste. Last year, they introduced Jamaican-style food. Not to mention, New Jersey's Number 1 college radio station, 107.7 The Bronc, played music, and had games and prizes for students to win!

Scream Screen vs. Maacness

Me and AJ!

While Maacness was extremely fun with AJ The Bronc dancing to Michael Jackson's Thriller, Scream Screen took the cake. One of 107.7 The Bronc's biggest events of the year, it starts with a two-hour-long "trunk or treat" where different organizations on campus give students candy, who doesn't love that?! In addition to free candy, there's plenty of foods to sample. Last year there was chili, pizza, ice cream and more! The best part of the night was the movie screen which was set up in the parking lot where students enjoyed a scary drive-in movie of their choosing through popular vote; fingers crossed this year's movie is "A Quiet Place!"

Eggcellent Egg Hunt vs. Crusin' for Commencement

Victoria Mysholowsky

Though Crusin' For Commencement is an event only seniors can participate in, where students submit a video of why they feel they deserve to win the car, seniors who voted in my poll, chose the egg hunt, probably because all can participate in the egg hunt. Eggcellent Egg Hunt is another one of 107.7 The Bronc's biggest events of the year, where thousands of eggs are placed on our campus mall, (green space). Every year one lucky winner picks the egg which contains $1,000! While chances are slim of winning the big prize, there are smaller prizes as well, like gift cards and coupons for local restaurants and hot spots!

Basketball games vs. Soccer games

BRONCS WIN AGAINST CANISIUS

I'll admit, I have not been to a soccer game yet at Rider, however, I have been to numerous basketball games, and the thrill is incredible. Rider's basketball team is Division 1, and we have been in the NCAA March Madness Tournament! Every game I've seen, the Broncs have won, and they were all very exciting close wins. Disclaimer, sorry for my voice crack in the video, I was so excited ;)

Fall concert vs. Homecoming

Rider may not have a football team, but their homecoming last year was exciting with food trucks, games, music, hot air balloon rides and MORE! Though homecoming didn't win the poll, it was still fun. However, the fall concert last year with Tinashe and A$AP Ferg. This event for me was unforgettable, especially since I was in the FRONT ROW!

Family Weekend vs. Ordinary Weekend

Family Weekend with my mom!

Victoria Mysholowsky

Though I don't live on campus, an ordinary weekend at Rider can consist of doing homework, meeting up with friends for lunch, grabbing Starbucks, going to the gym, etc. My family and I did attend family weekend last year, which takes place the first weekend of November. My family and I were even selected to play Family Feud, and we made it to the final round!

I'm very excited for this year's upcoming events at Rider, and look forward to sharing more good times with friends! Enjoy!!!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
