The Benefits Of Working In Retail

1. Clothes 24/7/365.

Being surrounded by clothes every single day is honestly one of the best feelings. I get to work in a store where I enjoy every moment I am there. Working in a clothing store and seeing all the new clothes that come in is such a plus for me because I live for clothes and fashion. At my job, Sophie and Trey, we put out new clothing every day, providing our customers with a variety of options.

I'm the kind of girl to dress up when there isn’t a reason to be dressed up, but because I love to stand out and be myself! For me, I am truly dressing to make myself happy, not to impress anyone. The items in all four of our stores allow people to dress up, dress down and dress like their true selves.

2. Working with happy people.

My fellow employees at Sophie and Trey are more than just my coworkers, but they have become my friends and even family. I love working with a group of girls who respect each other so much and appreciate all we do for one another. Working at this store for over two years has taught me so much and changed my perspective on retail as a whole. We always jump to help each other whenever needed. Our stores can get pretty busy and I love how if an employee is shopping, they will just jump in to help us with whatever is going on.

3. The discount!

We all know that the best pro to working in retail is that little discount you get. One of the benefits to working with clothes on the daily is getting to take some home at the end of the day! My whole wardrobe is from Sophie and Trey, so when I got the job my junior year, it only made my life better!

4. Styling and socializing with amazing customers.

I can truly say that I am blessed with the best customers. I hear people complain to me about their jobs and having to deal with rude customers, but I can say that the customers that come into our boutique are truly kind people. Customers come in with one purpose and that is to find an outfit to make their special event a great time with our clothes on. We truly thrive on customer service at Sophie and Trey and I couldn’t be prouder to be an employee. We love to get our customers involved by doing our Wear, Share, and Win contest on Instagram!

Coming into work and styling customers is one of the most fun and rewarding things. I can vividly remember a freshman coming in looking for a homecoming dress; she didn’t even know if she wanted to go and I worked with her for almost two hours and we found her that perfect dress. The moment she said “Thank you, I feel like a princess,” just made me the happiest to know that I was able to help her feel that way.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
