It's reaching that time of year again where all that surrounds you is the horrifying sounds of coughing and sneezing. No matter where you go, whether it be class, your dorm, or the dining hall, you are haunted by the inescapable germs that engulf your college campus. If you're not already sick, you're probably awaiting your doom. But, if you are feeling under the weather, you're definitely wishing you were home instead of stuck at school. Let's be honest, being sick at college is one of the worst experiences, and being sick at home is an entirely different story.
Being sick at college: You ignore your illness for as long as possible because you don't want to put in the effort to take care of yourself.
Being sick at home: You claim you're deathly ill at the slightest feeling of a scratchy throat.
Being sick at college: You try not to complain too much about how horrible you feel because you don't want to irritate your roommate.
Being sick at home: You cry to your mom for hours on end about how much your throat hurts, as if there's anything she can do to magically cure you.
Being sick at college: You have to drag yourself to 8am classes because you honestly can't even afford to miss one single lecture.
Being sick at home: You have no problem taking the entire week to focus on your wellbeing and recovery.
Being sick at college: You really have no idea how to take care of yourself. What kind of medicine are you even supposed to take? How often? Does microwaved soup still taste as good?
Being sick at home: Thanks, Mom.
The bottom line is that being sick with no one to lean on is seriously horrible. As the college years go on, you begin to learn more and more about how to take care of yourself, but there really is no better feeling than your mom's homemade soup and your favorite heated blanket. Hang in there, kids!
