What is a shopaholic? Me. I am a shopaholic. But seriously, a shopaholic is someone who is addicted to shopping. It is almost like being an alcoholic, except it is much less frowned upon; well at least in some instances. Well what does it really mean to be a shopaholic? Being a shopaholic means you are pretty impulsive and tend to buy things that you really do not need. You will feel inclined to buy something just because it's cute or because for some odd reason you really feel as though you need it, when in reality you don't need it at all.
When you are a shopaholic you will make up any type of excuse as to why you just have to buy every cute thing in sight. For example, I recently came across a pair of shoes that I would argue are to die for and my reasoning for needing these shoes is that I simply don't have any booties, therefore they are a major necessity to my life right now and I must buy them as soon as possible. But when you really sit down and rationalize the situation you realize that it is not exactly necessary that you buy those shoes because you already have so many pairs.
A big tell-tale sign that you might be a shopaholic is that you might have things in your closet that you have not even taken the tags off of yet, but here you are still buying new things that you might possibly never wear. Although you might be thinking "That's dumb, why would you buy something you might never wear?" But as a shopaholic we have no rational excuse for why, we just buy and regret it later (maybe).
One way you could really take control of your addiction is by making a list of what you actually need to go to the store for rather than going in blind. This will help because instead of wandering around the store trying to remember what you can for you will be able to get what you need and leave. This will save not only time but money as well.
As a shopaholic you need to take charge and control your addiction while you still can. Find ways that will help you stay away from unnecessary spending. Do not let yourself get so far into your addiction that you are in major debt. As my mom would say, "Control your addiction, do not let it control you."
