Being born and raised in Wisconsin is definitely something that I would never give up, especially living only 45 minutes from the frozen tundra, also known as Green Bay.
Since living so close to the birthplace to the Green Bay Packers, it’s a given that I am and will always be a diehard Packer fan. But after living in Minnesota for the past three months, it really makes me appreciate my team a lot more for a multitude of reasons.
- I am surrounded by Viking fans. I am in the center of Minnesota, so therefore I am in the center of Viking territory. Every Sunday I see a wide variety of people in the Vikings jerseys or repping the color purple everywhere I go. While everyone is cheering for them, I am proud to be representing my home state where my green and gold. Leaving my room is a little risky because I get a few dozen comments about my Clay Matthews jersey, but I am not going to hide my pride for my team.
- I don’t give up on my team even when they are not doing so hot. Lately, the Packer’s winning streak hasn’t taken flight too well but that doesn’t give me any reason to hop onto another team. I am not a band-wagoner and I will definitely not jump to the Vikings just because they have a better record right now. I refuse to give up hope for my Pack unlike many sports fans do when their team isn’t doing well.
- I argue with Vikings fans on the daily. When you wear your green and gold attire in front of a Viking fan, that’s just asking for an argument to break loose. I argue about how many superbowls the Packers have been to and won is more than the Vikings and how many championships they have won compared to them as well. This happens on a daily basis and gets quite annoying when I have to repeat myself because Vikings fans just don’t get it.
- Finding the game on TV is nearly impossible. The only team on the TV’s out here is the Vikings. I channel surf for at least 20 minutes, if not more, until I finally find the game. I get the Vikings and Packers are rivals, but sorry, not everyone in Minnesota is cheering for the Vikings.
- I will forever rep my green and gold. Say what you want, look at me with your dirty looks, do whatever you want. It won’t change the fact that I will forever be a Packer fan, whether you like it or not.
