Being able to speak another language other than the one you grew up learning may seem like something not necessary to a lot of people; however, there are a lot of great things that come from learning one. The way I see it, is that there are a lot more pros than cons when learning a new language.
Pros
1. An edge in the job market.
Learning another language will definitely help you in the real-world. I've had several employers tell me how lucky I am to be fluent in two languages. It makes you more marketable and likable. An employer would rather hire someone who can communicate with several groups of people.
2. Traveling will be a breeze.
No more falling for tourist pranks. You will have less anxiety about traveling to a country you've never been to before. People won't be able to take advantage of you because basically your super human.
3. It's very sexy.
Knowing a different language is pretty hot to the opposite sex. The minute people find out you're fluent in another language (major bonus points if it's a romance language like Spanish or French) you automatically get a first date in the books. I personally enjoy every second of it.
4. It's fun.
Who cares if you have a heavy accent, at least you can speak the language. Don't ever feel embarrassed, it's very hard to be fluent in another language. Just be proud that you can speak it.
5. You become more well-rounded.
The ability of knowing another language will surprisingly teach you many new things. I can speak two languages fluently. I know Italian, but not to the point where I can conduct business. I'm just happy I'm one of the lucky ones that can speak more than one language. You will learn to accept and understand why certain people do what they do.
CONS
There aren't any. It is incredibly rewarding to be able to speak to people in another language.
