Nature is intriguing. Not only is there beauty in the humblest of things, but nature has many different personalities. It can be calm, dreary, happy, hopeful, fierce, bold, aggressive, and threatening, but it's always beautiful. It's a beauty that only the most insightful can truly understand and appreciate in a way that most people cannot. Nature is a place of solace and freedom--a world bigger than the other, but also the one that doesn't get quite as much attention.
During stressful times in my life, I'll go for a stroll in the woods. It's peaceful and enlightening. The rest of the world washes away and you're in a place that knows no politics, no drama, no war, no social media, no filters, no money, no due dates, or anything that comes from mankind. It's calming. Nature has a way of tearing you down, bringing you to your knees, and showing you your real place in the world. It doesn't care how many friends you have on Facebook, the number of followers you have on Instagram, or how many hours you spend getting ready to go out, because it's irrelevant.
Nature is the place to go when you want to feel human--not the invincible kind of human, but the kind of human that's located at the bottom of the food chain. It's why I love to go camping. Being isolated in the woods without any connection via internet to the real world is humbling. It cuts you down to size and shows you what's on the other side of the phone you constantly have in front of your face.
Nature can teach you that nothing really matters. It'll show you that you're not as high and mighty as you might think. It will tell you that money doesn't make you rich. It will reveal those small things you've looked over, and expose the falsity of society's "requirements" to a "good life".
Most important of all, nature will show you who you want to be. It fills you with a certain knowledge that you won't be able to explain--people will simply have to experience it for themselves. However, some just won't understand.
And that's the problem with nature. It fills up your mind and soul to the brim, making you feel whole and humble, but when it comes time for you return to society, you'll be an outsider.
