Everyone is slipping on their snow boots and bracing themselves for the dropping temperatures. Along with frostbite, winter is notorious for bringing snow storms that leave you trapped inside bored out of your mind. Unless you love snow days, it can be difficult to stay entertained during the winter season. This doesn't always have to be the case though. There are multiple ways to keep nice and warm while also remaining preoccupied.
Beat the winter blues by taking the time to exercise. Physical activity will warm you up, improve your health, and is an excellent time filler. You can always join a gym or move some furniture around for home exercises. Additionally, if you are a college student take advantage of on campus events such as yoga classes. Another way to pass the time is to go shopping for a new winter wardrobe. Stores sell the most adorable earmuffs, scarves, hats, and more! Wearing layers not only keeps you snug but it's a perfect excuse to buy new clothes. Next, planning a small, inexpensive vacation is productive and will have you looking forward to 90 degree weather. Several websites can find perfect places to hike or camp. Maybe even try to find a new beach to sprawl out and work on your tan.
Whenever you see any sunlight, go outside and absorb the Vitamin D. People tend to feel less happy when winter drags on, but if you take advantage of the bright days by a short walk, it can be a vast improvement for your mood. Volunteering is a constructive way to spend your time dealing with the frigidness. Maybe serve hot soup for those less fortunate to stay warm or start a winter clothing drive to give to those who lack shelter. Lastly, have a girls/guys night to fight back against the winter blues. What's better than spending time with those who make you laugh so hard your sides feel like they might explode? Heat up some cocoa, butter the popcorn, and indulge in each other's company. The possibilities are endless when it comes to these get together. You can watch movies, play your favorite games, blast music that you will sing along terribly to, or just reminisce about past memories.
Winter does not have to be mind draining and bitter. By using just a little energy and inspiration, you can make the most out of these next few months. Spring is approaching faster than you think and with it, comes new life. "Winter is the time for comfort, for good food, and warmth. For the touch of a friendly hand and for a talk beside the fire: it is the time for home." -Edith Sitwell
