A Letter To My Cousin Starting High School
Taylor Johnson

You have less than a month before you embark on this new and exciting adventure--get ready. You are now at the bottom of the food chain and do not forget it. The seniors are superior even when they do not act like it. Respect them and learn from them. Though you are at the bottom, you have endless opportunities throughout your four years in high school. You have four years of learning, tears, laughter, relationships and stress. Use these years wisely because what everyone tells you about time flying by is completely and utterly true.

You live in a small town where when things happen, everyone finds out about those things––please take this to heart and make the decisions you won't regret. But when you make these decisions that you will inevitably regret, you will have the support all around you and never forget it. Your family and friends are your core, but even friends fall through and your family just may not understand at the time so that is when you lean towards the one who always understands- God. Base your high school on faith because it will make your journey so much easier. Go to mass even when your mom does not take you, go to any youth group possible, surround yourself with good and the bad will fade.

Find your thing, Figure out what you enjoy doing and put your all into it. Learn how to knit, paint, bake or even play chess. Keep growing in the things you love and you will have a fulfilling four years, You may go through fifty things before there is one thing you stick with but please stick with at least one thing. Your friends are one of your biggest influences in high school so find something you all like to do together. Being around the ones that enjoy what you enjoy makes life a little more enjoyable.

Money will be tight but do not hound your parents to always pay for your stuff because they are doing the best they can. Fifteen is a hard age to get a job but babysitting is always an option so take advantage of it. Take a babysitting class and get certified because your 15-year-old self will thank me when you get to shop a lot. Classes are hard sometimes and it will get overwhelming. Do not overload yourself with AP classes unless you absolutely know you need them. Struggling? Get a tutor and do not wait. College is coming in four years so the more you ask for help the more you will gain as you get older. Everyone needs help sometimes, it is okay. Drama is going to happen and it can only be semi-avoided as long as you do not get involved. It will always be there––you just have to learn how to let things go and be the bigger person. Please do not involve yourself or by all means start any drama because it is just not worth it.

Despite what the teachers, your parents, and literally everyone will tell you, you do not have to have your life mapped out in the next four years. Do not stress about it because you will change your mind about 50 million times and that is okay, there is a time and a place so do not worry and you will figure it out. But the best advice I could give you is just make up something that you think you may want to do and when every adult ever asks you what you want to do with your life then you have something to tell them.

Just be a Godly woman and the best you can be. Do not let anyone tell you that you are not good enough or can't do something. You are going to live a great life and never forget it. Your friends and life may change but you always have two things to keep you going and that is God and yourself. Get to know them both.

James 1:5-6 "If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind"

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
