7 Things To Be Grateful For During Quarantine

The world is facing such a trying time right now. Between the COVID-19 outbreak, racial and political injustices, and countless other let downs, it can be hard to find ways to remain positive. I wrote this as a reminder of all the small things we should be grateful for during quarantine. After all, one of the most important parts of life is making sure you aren't taking it for granted, use this list as a reminder.

Spending Time Outside

Whether you're going on a walk, riding a bike, visiting a park, taking a hike, or bouncing a soccer ball in your backyard, spending time outside is one of the things most people have been able to enjoy since the "stay at home orders" were first implemented. It is important to get fresh air and stay active daily. I hope you've found new ways to stay busy in the sun during this past couple of months.

Quality Time With Family

Students moved home from college, adults moved back in with the parents, many families found themselves spending more time together since the virus outbreak. With our busy schedules and life's countless responsibilities, being able to spend quality time with your family is such a blessing right now.

Finding Creative Ways To Hang Out With Friends

Giphy

Zoom is the new night out. Weddings, baby showers, and birthday parties have been moved to online formats to follow social distancing rules. Drive-by graduation parties were organized for the class 2020 graduates. Car picnics and drive-in movies have had besties hanging out safely during this crazy time. How have you and your friends hung out during quarantine?

Time to Rest

Giphy

For many people, the pandemic has gifted them with much needed rest. I hope that you've listened to your body and have taken as many midday naps as needed over the past few months.

Discovering New Things

Giphy

It's always exciting to find new hobbies and prepare new recipes. Quarantine has given people many opportunities to experience new discoveries. Many people have started new business ventures and fallen in love with that one thing they've always wanted to try, but have never had the time to do so.

FOMO Is Nonexistent

Giphy

With stay-at-home orders and social distancing guidelines in place, there is no reason to have fear of missing out. You don't have to beat yourself up about saying no to that dinner date, or just wanting to stay home instead of going out dancing.

New Music Releases

Giphy

Many artists have taken this time to create again, and with that, a lot of new music has dropped on various streaming platforms. One of my personal favorites was the release of ChloeXHalle's sophomore album, "Ungodly Hour."

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
