Thanksgiving is a time to not only reflect on what you are thankful for but also to dig into some great food. However, there's always a debate on which foods are the best to eat during this holiday...so I figured we'd let them battle it out.
ROUND 1: Turkey vs. Ham
This usually would come down to a matter of preference. However, turkey allows for turkey gravy which is a staple for your mashed potatoes and it also is the icon associated with Thanksgiving. So turkey it is.
ROUND 2: Light Meat vs Dark Meat
Now that we've established which kind of meat we're eating, we need to determine which pieces to take. Dark meat is full of flavor and usually not as dry as light meat, but light meat usually makes up most of the turkey and you're more likely to get a bigger piece that way. Light meat wins.
Also on a side note, light meat is healthier than dark meat if you did want to know, but who cares about being super healthy on Thanksgiving, am I right?
It's a nationwide cheat day!
ROUND 3: Canned Cranberry Sauce vs Homemade Cranberry Sauce
Both definitely have the flavor, but typically the texture of the canned cranberry sauce can be off-putting to some, and the homemade sauce can be customized to your liking. Plus, if you want a certain type of taste, it's best to just make it yourself. Homemade cranberry sauce takes this point.
ROUND 3: Green Bean Casserole vs Brussel Sprouts
Do I even have to answer? Even for those brussel sprouts fans (there are a lot actually, when doing research for this article, brussel sprout and green bean casserole were the two top vegetable side dishes) you can't beat green bean casserole. Like turkey, it is associated with thanksgiving as it is usually only served on this holiday.
ROUND 4: Everything Separate On The Plate vs Everything Mixed Together
I am a bit of a mixer myself at times, but if you want to enjoy each individual dish in all it's glory, it's best to probably eat everything separately, except of course for the gravy. However, if you did go back for seconds, I don't see why you can't mix it up a bit since you already tried everything once.
ROUND 5: Pumpkin Pie vs Apple Pie
Wrapping it up with dessert, pumpkin or apple? I am not a huge fan of pumpkin pie myself, and my family always makes apple pie for Thanksgiving, but when is there a better time to pumpkin pie than during fall, the pumpkin season. Pumpkin takes the pie.
