Ahhhh back to school---the best and worst time of the year. At this point, most of us are WAY more than ready to get the hell out of our houses and back on campus. But, with that excitement come the stress and anxiety of actually getting our sh*t together and preparing for another new school year. Here are some pros & cons of things that lead up to the hundreds of "BACK @ IT!" college kid Instagram pics.
Back to school shopping:
So a new year means a new wardrobe and a complete makeover of dorm decor, right? Oh how everyone loves going to the mall and immediately thinking, "wait, could I wear this out?" before purchasing anything...only to be followed by the "what do you mean a size ___ doesn't fit me anymore?" after those bored summer nights at home eating everything in sight and watching Netflix.
Getting active again:
Sure, you had a summer job, you "actually did stuff," but let's be honest: no, you didn't. We all like to pump ourselves up and say we had a productive summer, but it's nothing like being a college student---even if you took a summer class. Classes every day, studying for multiple subjects, maintaining a healthy life style while trying to maintain a social life (no, drinking your calories instead of eating them does not count!)---it's HARD! It's fun but it is difficult, and at some point the little light bulb goes off in our heads (usually mid-August) and it's like, oh sh*t, I'm going back to school. While it might be hard to maintain, though, it is also nice knowing that you will always be on your toes, having something to do, and your chances of being bored are slim!
Textbooks/ Supplies lists:
Great, I'm gonna look hot in my new outfits and everyone will love my new bed spread. I'm actually going to feel like a functioning and productive human being again---but hold on a minute, I forgot textbooks and I'm now broke. This is probably the worst, because in some cases YOU DON'T EVEN READ THE BOOKS. It's like, what was the point of spending 100 bucks on something that is getting dusty on my shelf! A plus side to this is that there are websites and outside vendors that you can get these books from, and my best advice would be to wait until you actually talk to the professor regarding the curriculum before you end up spending a ton of money and end up like Patrick above.
Now that you've accepted the fact that you're broke due to everything you splurged on (no regrets, people, no regrets), comes the eighth wonder of the world, which is also known as packing. This is like Tetris on steroids when it comes to stacking, folding, and fitting all these things into storage---only to then be overwhelmed when you need to unpack it all in your tiny little dorm again. But with packing comes the excitement of "omg I can't wait to wear this" and "I'll be at school soon. I miss all my friends." I guess you could say packing is the wake-up call that, yup, this is it, it's happening, we're going back.
Summer is coming to a close, my friends, and we love to hate it, but at the same time hate to love it. Sure, you might not be laying out by your pool all day, but you'll be reunited with your friends and making more of those lifelong memories all over again.
Oh, and you might even start to miss your parents a little bit too.
Welcome to the cycle of college life
