If you are someone who is first starting out on makeup, then you should totally avoid Kailyn Marie. She is on YouTube, but seriously has the most hideous looks anyone can ever imagine. What is even worse is that her die-hard fans pass it off as 'gorgeous' or 'stunning.' There is nothing attractive about her makeup looks. She lacks in effort into teaching her viewers on how to apply makeup. Let me explain:
1. She does not have knowledge on how to choose foundation shades.
Literally, every single video of hers features Kailyn applying foundation that is just WAY too light for her skintone. In addition, she does not even take heed into the mistake; Kailyn continues this habit with nearly all of her tutorials. Rarely is there any video in which Kailyn has properly applied her base.
2. The eyeshadows are barely blended and the colors do not match.
There is no routine set of rules (e.g., apply a transition shade into the crease) when Kailyn shows her looks on camera. Also, the eyeshadows are seriously applied onto the lid with such a heavy hand that the colors are unable to blend together in any way. Eyeshadow is supposed to be applied with a light hand, no matter where the color is being placed on the eyelid. Softer application means easier blending, in turn, a better overall finished product. Heavier application means rougher blending, and not-so-great eyeshadow results. Even with smokey eyes, it is recommended to use a light hand when applying the shadows. It is never a good idea to pack on the shadows all at once. Always apply shadows in layers, blend out the color, and then apply more if needed. Unfortunately, Kailyn packs it on all at once, and then keeps layering the shadow, even before blending out the first layer of color. People keep telling her to blend out the colors in the comments, but Kailyn deletes constructive criticism, or any comment that lacks in the terminology of 'stunning', 'gorgeous', or 'pretty.'
Oh, and let me also mention that the use of brushes is also important. For example, do not apply shadow into the inner tear ducts with a huge blending brush. Pencil brushes are made for that application! Kailyn does not do proper use of brushes for shadow application. In her videos, you notice her using big brushes for everything, even for the outer parts of the eye.
3. Lipstick colors barely match
Green eyes do not pair with bright pink lips. Instead, pair the green shadow with peachy lips or muted pink. The lips are an essential piece for bringing a look together, aside from blush, bronzer, and highlighter. However, she does not utilize constructive criticism in her comments box. Anything that does contain the words 'gorgeous', 'stunning', or 'pretty', then there is a chance the comment will be deleted by Kailyn. That is not being a YouTuber; the person is simply making videos to reinstate their self-confidence.
Kailyn's overall style is not suitable for anyone, beginner or not. Kailyn herself has a lot more to learn about the cosmetics world. I am not being a bully by saying that beginners should avoid her videos. I saw a couple of them myself and honestly would not recommend using her techniques on yourself. Moreover, she does not even use makeup made for her skintone. In the mentality of Kailyn, if a shade looks pretty on the display, then that is all it will take to be applied onto the lips. Who cares if it does not match? If the model can rock it, then so can you. Think about how terrible that advice is; why preach into the world of YouTube, especially if someone is just getting into the cosmetic world?
If you have any ladies who are showing interest in makeup, but they have no prior experience, please make them abstain from Kailyn. Your wonderful friends will end up looking like the Joker with her advice. People will be making fun of your friends, laughing at them for such terrible makeup looks, and loads of horrible stuff. Even I will not be utilizing Kailyn's makeup looks onto my own face! Again, I am not bullying in any form. I am just giving out my PSA for avoiding terrible makeup gurus, and wannabe makeup gurus.
