As a senior who will be leaving the Classic City soon, it's hard to describe all the things I'll miss about Athens, Ga. One of the things I'll miss the most is the food scene and all the places that are unique to Athens. Here's a list of all the can't-miss restaurants that make up my favorite place on earth.
1. Mama's Boy
An obvious choice, Mama's Boy is the favorite brunch spot for both students and Athens locals. It's packed anytime you go, but well worth the wait. Personal Favorite: Salmon Cakes Benedict
2. Ike and Jane
When I need something sweet, I head to Ike and Jane for a delicious doughnut. You can put just about anything you want on a doughnut, and it's always delicious. Personal Favorite: The Elvis (Peanut Butter, Banana, and Bacon)
3. Athens Bagel
Athens Bagel has been a favorite stop for me for a long time- from a quick stop walking to class, to a brunch stop before shopping downtown, there's nothing bad on the menu. Personal Favorite: Lox Deluxe or Classic City Croque
4. Taqueria Del Sol
Whenever I need a good drink and a night with my friends, I head to Taqueria. Its outdoor seating make it a nice treat when I need to wind down after a hard week. Personal Favorite: Tacos and Texas Margaritas
5. Last Resort
The priciest place on my list, I always pick Last Resort when my family comes to town. Last Resort has southern charm and great dessert, which makes it one of my favorite places to eat in the world. Personal Favorite: Last Resort's Praline and Tiramisu
6. Dawg Gone Good BBQ
When I'm in need of some great BBQ and southern sides, I head to this small place on Hancock Avenue. Personal Favorite: BBQ sandwich with Mac n Cheese and Collard Greens
7. The Grit
If you're a vegetarian, The Grit is probably one of your favorite places to eat in Athens. If you're not (like me), it's still a great place to go when you need something savory and healthy. Personal Favorite: Grilled Cheese Smelt or Hot Noodle Bowl
8. Rooftop at Georgia Theatre
The Rooftop is a great place to hang out and meet up before a show at the Georgia Theatre. The view of Athens doesn't hurt either. Personal Favorite: Grilled Pimento Cheese Sandwich with Bacon
9. Cali n Tito's
Cali n Tito's is a great place to go if a) you love spicy food and b) you want to drink but you can't afford it. It's BYOB and the relaxed atmosphere make it a weekend staple. Personal Favorite: El Sandwich Cubano
10. Trappeze
Trappeze is one of my favorite places to eat before a sorority or fraternity formal, because everyone can find something they love on the menu, and it's in a prime place downtown. Personal Favorite: A cheese plate and the Trappeze Dubbel
There's so many more place that deserve to be on this list, and I'd love to hear about when everyone's must-haves are!
