How Impactful ASU's Loss to Oregon State Truly Was

It may just have been another disappointing loss on a continuous losing streak, but in the scheme of things it was much more.

How Impactful ASU's Loss to Oregon State Truly Was

This was a tough game for the Sun Devils as they traded scores with Oregon State for three straight quarters before a nail-biting fourth quarter. It was going to be a tough game from the start given Oregon State's defense is ranked 32nd and Arizona State's defense is 62nd in the national rankings currently, but nonetheless the Sun Devils have dealt with strong adversity before in the season, playing tough opponents like Cal and Michigan State on the road, Oregon State should have been no different and we, as fans, hoped that the coordination of both the offense and defense would have prepared adequately for the game to come and learned their lesson from embarrassing losses to UCLA and USC in the weeks prior.

On the plus side, the game was exciting. Who doesn't love a tight football game with an exciting ending? Although, upon reviewing the game it is still clear the Sun Devils are not making the changes needed to succeed in the Pac-12. A seemingly unprepared defense blowing coverage and keeping the Beavers in the game was a constant burden placed on the offense to produce. Jayden Daniels being back had a great game, with touchdowns to Kyle Williams, Eno Benjamin, Brandon Aiyuk, and Frank Darby, and a lot of hard work shown from these players. On the flip side, the Sun Devil offensive line still needs to get it together. Benjamin had 15 carries in the game only totaling for 70 yards and this is a running back that broke ASU's rushing record in the previous season. Something needs to change and fast because this is a critical asset the team has benefited off of in the past that they cannot let go to waste.

Above all else, it all comes back down to coaching. In my personal opinion, the last 2-point conversion was a bold move and a respectable one to try and win the game, but that was one of the worst offensive plays I have ever seen. The play was completely botched from the start, but looking back it should've never come down to that. It is respectable that Coach Herm was trying to win the game, but you need to have your players prepared for these high stakes circumstances and it was clear that the Sun Devils were not.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
