Article Ideas Submitted By My Friends

This week, it was tough to think of an article to write. I was back at work for a couple of days, I had an interview for a summer internship, and now I am living it up on the beach in sunny Daytona, Florida, so my mind was not really focusing on writing. The deadline for the article was creeping up on me and I needed to act fast because I left at 3:45 in the morning on the day it was due and knew I could not turn it in after a 10 hour plus car ride. Then I got thinking, what if I wrote about what my friends wanted to write about? Or at least get some ideas from them. I'm not sure if this is cheating, but it definitely showed me the author side of my friends.

Here are some thoughts and ideas my friends thought they would write about if they were working for Odyssey:

"What they teach you about college going in vs what you actually learn" - Mercedies S.

This is very true. Sometimes you do not need to study an entire week for a midterm to ace or start a paper in advance. Those time-pressured papers and study cram jams are what make assignments better... well, for some of us.

"Soccer, conservative views, or family" - Anna D.

I should have known soccer would be on her list. Anna and I have been playing soccer together since seventh grade, and boy, did that sport take over our lives. From soccer tournaments on the weekends to concussions to Anna needing stitches in her forehead, we survived our adolescense years somehow.

"The 10 different type of jobs students get over the summer" - Josh S.

I like this one because there are so many different jobs that students can get. I see college students as servers, lifeguards, and even managers at retail stores in the mall. It is interesting to see what we can gain access for three months. Plus, Josh works his butt off not only during the school year, but during the summer. College kids have bills to pay and they are not cheap.

"College Withdrawals" - Sara S.

It is already two weeks since I left school and I'll admit, I am missing my friends from school, especially those I did not get to really see my last few weeks. Even though our group chat is blowing up with YouTube videos and pictures of cute otters, I miss my big, twin, aunt, G big, and cousin.

"Summer Movies" Liz D.

That's right, folks, Liz is hype for the new summer films to hit theaters. Movies such as "Alice: Through the Looking Glass," "Finding Dory," "The Shallows," "Star Trek: Beyond," and many more are hitting the big screen this summer for you to enjoy and see over and over again.

So when it comes to article ideas, do not be afraid to ask your friends for thoughts or ideas. Some of the them might even surprise you with topics that really work for this week or for future articles, and some might make you guys stare at each other for a minute before you burst into fits of laughter. It is tough coming up with an idea every week, but in the end, we get it done and hit the submit button every week.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
