This week, being a college student is not my cup of tea! Being overwhelmed with papers, and an off-campus job has just been crazy!
Time management is key. Although there are only 24 hours in a day, you need about 8-10 hours of good sleep to start your day. This on top of school work and a job can add a lot of pressure.
For your classes-do not miss them. Missing your classes will add to your stress because before you know it, you will have a new assignment on top of what you already have.
I'm pretty sure going to work takes up a lot of time especially if you work 8 or more hours on the days you work. Here are a few tips to helping with managing your time to get your work done:
1. Multi-Task.
When you are at work, bring whatever it is you need to work on your assignments on your break.
2. Think Ahead.
If you're writing a paper and your job does not have wi-fi, get your information at home or in your dorm. That way, you can bring out all your written information and type it all into a paper.
3. Work Outside Your Dorm Room.
Instead of doing your homework in your room when you have extra time, go to the library and sit in the quiet area to get away from all of the distractions.
4. Use A Calendar.
Make a plan, if just doing things does not work. Get a planner, a white board or set reminders for yourself if you have a smartphone.
First time college students, if you are feeling like you are ready to give up, DON'T ! You got this, try not to think so negatively (that goes for all of you).
Take a minute out to just breathe.
There we go, now it's time to get organized. Whatever helps you get organized-do it. Make some time schedules that include your classes, even if you have to eat at certain times, do it. Pick days to work on certain homework, and when to have them finished. Your life will become a whole lot easier once everything has its place.
Limit yourself to going out. If there is an event coming up that you would like to attend, plan around that. Even though you are going out for a night of fun, do not try to stay out all night to where you have to sleep in all day and mess up your schedule. Plan smart. Make sure you get in a decent time to where you can sleep in a little the next day ,but get right back on schedule.
If you work as well, I would suggest not going out. I would say that is the best thing to do. I am a full-time student, I work off campus ,and I'm involved in a sorority. Managing my time has taken a toll on me. Before this week, I played volleyball so I had to make sure I got things done when they were suppose to. Now that I have a lot more free time (not really), I will be spending that time being more on top of my work.
Being a working college student can be complicated. Making a plan and becoming organized would help. I hope some of these things will help you during your college experience!
