Summer is here and that means adventure awaits. No matter what type of travel you will be embarking on, there are apps to make your trip easier and even more enjoyable. With so many apps out there though, it’s hard to know what is worth the time. The following are adventurer-approved so pack your bags, check out these apps and explore!
WhatsApp:The perfect solution for communicating with friends and family without using data or paying for a foreign cell phone plan. WhatsApp allows you to text and call when you’re connected to WiFi. Photos, videos, voice messages, documents, and your location can also be sent with the app, not to mention is has a group messaging feature.
Guides by Lonely Planet:Traveling to a big city? This app is perfect. It has cities in the U.S. as well as abroad. It has city guides, offline maps and useful tips from writers who have actually traveled to the locations. Included are places to see, eat, sleep, shop, drink and play. I personally enjoy the “top experiences” feature because I know what major places I should check out before I leave.
GasBuddy: Traveling can get pricey so anything that saves me money I can get on board with. GasBuddy shows the cheapest gas prices in your area and gives you directions to those gas stations. Offered in the U.S., Canada and Australia.
App in the Air:If your travel plans include flying this app is a big help. With flight status, airport maps, flight profile and airport tips, it keeps you on track. The great thing? It works offline so no need to worry about finding WiFi or using up data.
BringFido: If your dogs are important members of your family like mine are this is a fabulous app. If you want to find a pet-friendly hotel, beach, or park this app can help you with that. Knowing you can bring your furry friend along on your adventures without stressing about where you can and can’t bring them will take the hassle out of traveling.
Yonder:Find activities or adventures near you or where you are traveling to! Search locations to find places for hiking, kayaking, rock climbing, biking, skiing and much more. You can even follow others and share your favorite experiences.
XE Currency: This app can convert every world currency in the event that you are traveling out of the country. It can be used offline and always has the latest updated rates. It also includes charts and the ability to monitor up to 10 currencies if you’re into that too.
Google Translate: An essential for traveling to a foreign country where there may be a language barrier. With instant camera translation and two-way speech translation, it is a quick and easy tool to get language help right when you need it. There are 52 languages that can be translated offline as well.
The best part of all these? They're free! Save your money for your adventures and enjoy!
