Congratulations JMU Class of 2022 on your acceptance! If you choose to make JMU your home for the next four years (which you definitely should), you'll need these free apps to make the most of your experience.

1. Venmo. If you're not a cash kind of person, Venmo is the app for you. Basically, you link your credit or debit card to the app, which gives you the ability to securely pay and receive money from other people who have the app. It's great for when you have a bunch of stuff you need from Walmart but don't feel like actually going out for. Just Venmo a friend! (And yes, Venmo is a verb, too.)

2. Canvas. Most professors post grades, homework, and announcements on Canvas. Once you have the app, you're able to access all that essential information whenever you need it. You'll be checking it obsessively during finals week, trust me.

3. myStop. Need to catch that bus from Festival to Memorial, like, right now? Check myStop! It's the best app for tracking where your bus and figuring out which route you'll need to take. Plus, it's better than JMU's official bus app.

4. Uber. If you don't already have it, get it. While the Harrisonburg buses are pretty good at taking you where you need to be, they don't always run when you want them to (which is to IHOP at 1 AM on a Saturday, obviously).

5. GroupMe. Whichever dorm you get assigned to will probably have a hall GroupMe chat. Also, it will be helpful for project groups and similar academic pursuits.

6. JoyRun. If you're feeling especially lazy, you can get other people to get your food for you. Once you get past the initial confusing layout, you can say hello to almost any food you've ever dreamed of from the comfort of your own dorm.

7. myHomework. Save yourself some money and download this app instead of buying a planner. Using myHomework, you're able to input your class times, assignments, and how high of a priority they are with an incredibly simple user interface.

8. Spotify. JMU has a huge campus, and nothing passes the time walking or riding a bus like some great bops. Once you're a college student, you can get Spotify Premium for only $5.99 a month. It's a great investment. Plus, you get a free Hulu account.

9. Quizlet. Flashcards and more! Get this app for handy studying wherever you are.

10. Netflix. Nobody will judge you for binge-watching Shameless in SSC. We all need a break sometimes.

Class of 2022, we can't wait to have you! Go Dukes!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Being Invisible The Best Super Power

The best superpower ever? Being invisible of course. Imagine just being able to go from seen to unseen on a dime. Who wouldn't want to have the opportunity to be invisible? Superman and Batman have nothing on being invisible with their superhero abilities. Here are some things that you could do while being invisible, because being invisible can benefit your social life too.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
