Sometimes, the things we rely on most just seem to blend into our day without appreciation. One of those things is music and the way it influences us. When you really think about it, you probably don’t go a day without listening to a song. What’s your first instinct when you get in the car? You hand someone the aux cord so you can all listen to music. What’s the first thing athletes do when they start to warm up for a big game? They put their headphones in and blast their favorite song that pumps them up.
Music has served a huge purpose in our lives, whether we notice it every day or not. It becomes second nature to put in our headphones while we're walking to class, doing homework, or just taking a break during the day. I believe music is a huge influence on our generation and often defines who we are as a person. Are you a huge fan of EDM? Going to concerts and music festivals is often what you find yourself blowing your money on and looking forward to throughout the year. I know so many people who have made a strong connection with strangers at a concert just because they are both shouting their favorite song at the top of their lungs. Do you enjoy country? There’s nothing like sitting around a bonfire in the summertime with your friends singing along to your favorite country melody.
Music even brings people back to good times in their lives. A song might come on the radio and time travel you back to your high school senior prom. A sad song you love might cause you to shed a tear because it reminds you of when you were going through your first real breakup. It’s the center of a college party, a wedding, or whatever other event you are attending. When that one song comes on that everyone loves and you’re having a drink with your friends, those times become some of the happiest memories you have to look back on.
Music is one of the biggest industries in history. Rappers, musicians, artists, and DJs make a living off of sharing their favorite vibes and songs with the rest of the world. They anticipate albums coming out on social media to hype up the fans and get them excited for their new sound. They make music videos that get upwards of millions of views in a single day. People pay hundreds, even thousands of dollars to see their one favorite artist in concert front row for one night. If that doesn’t tell you how big an influence music is on our generation, I don’t know what will. It has continuously been a staple in people's lives throughout the years and has proven to be a huge part of society. Music is one of the biggest ways for people to express themselves and I can’t even begin to imagine a world without it.
