Oftentimes, it is the small things that people don’t appreciate every day that make me the happiest. It is important for everyone to find small things that can make you happy. It is not always about the obvious things that can make you happy. Sometimes, we need to really appreciate the small things to realize how good life is. At times, we may be blinded by something overwhelming, something bad, or something stressful. I want to help you realize how the tiniest things, which you may not even think about, can make you happy. Here is a list of a few good, simple things in life.
1. Getting the mail. Strangely enough, I realized that I get a lot of joy from getting the mail. There is always some excitement in receiving a package, a letter, a coupon, or a card.
2. Walking barefoot in the grass. There is something special about feeling the earth on your feet. It’s calming, it is relaxing, and it feels good.
3. Good scents. It is true that scents can help you remember something. I have often smelled something and thought of a good memory. It is also extraordinarily enjoyable to smell something good.
4. Your bed. There is nothing quite like the feeling of climbing into your own bed after a long day. It is comfortable, and it is familiar. It is a safe place where you can dream.
5. Warmth of sunshine. Sometimes the sun shines too brightly, but we really appreciate the sunshine after a lot of rain. Sometimes we get burned, but we always appreciate the sun when we are feeling gloomy.
6. Rain. Just like sunshine, we need rain. Rain helps nature grow, and it can help us grow as well. It is very important that we understand to love the rain just as much as the sun. Everyone needs to jump in a puddle every once in a while.
7. Warm clothes from the dryer. Everyone loves to put on warm clothes right after they come out of the dryer. It’s comforting, and feels like you are being hugged.
8. A good hug. We under estimate the power of a goof hug. A good hug can go a long way, and that is why I strive to always give a good hug. You never know when someone really needs it. Hugs can help us feel comforted, welcomed, loved, cared for, and at home.
9. A friendly smile. We are far too used to strangers being unfriendly, so whenever a stranger gives us a kind smile, it makes our day. Smile more.
10. A good (or bad) joke. Everyone needs some humor in their life. It is important to laugh, even at bad jokes. Laughter is so important. Never be afraid to laugh, and laugh out loud and as loud as you can. We need to truly lol every day.
11. Going for a walk. It’s incredible what being outside can do for you. I hate to be inside for too long, I would say it kind of sucks your soul out a little bit. Being outside in the fresh air is necessary for everyone’s health.
12. Putting on your pajamas. At the end of the day, there is nothing like getting out of your work clothes or school clothes and putting comfy clothes on. Pajamas are the best, and it is never too early to put your jammies on.
13. Having a plant. A plant is always a good place to start if you want to take care of something. Plants are so cute, and they can become very special to you. You can even have a garden of your own, and that is very fulfilling.
14. Going to an art or science museum. There is something extraordinary about reveling in the art and science that surrounds us, the talent, discoveries, and accomplishments happening everywhere. It makes you feel very glad to be in a world like we live in.
15. Doing something you love. Sometimes we are far too busy to do the things that we love to do. We don’t always get to read the book we have been dying to read, or travel to that place we have been wanting to visit, listen to the new album by your favorite artist, go to a concert, cook that new recipe, or watch our favorite TV show. There are so many activities that are meaningful to us as individuals that we never seem to have time for. It is important to our health to do something we love. We have to make time for the things we enjoy the most and make us happy. Always make time to take care of yourself, because you are very important and deserve happiness.
Noticing the small things in life is a simple way to keep yourself happy. There is always something to be happy about, we just have to keep an eye out for them. It’s not always the big things that make us the happiest, but the small things, the simple, yet very important things.
