We live in a world where we are constantly being judged for how we look, what we wear, how much we weigh, what phone we have, etc. So it's really hard to build yourself up when you are constantly being brought down. As a young woman, I have come to this realization far too early in life that no matter what I do I will never be "good enough" to some of the harsher critiques, so some of my friends and I have had to come up with some coping mechanisms.
This is just a list of some ways to love yourself when the outside world just constantly seems to be getting you down.
1. Wake up and treat yourself to a breakfast that tastes delicious
Having breakfast is a great way to start off your day on the right foot. It doesn't have to be worthy of an Intstagram photo, but as long as you enjoy it that's what matters.
2. Create a playlist to jam out to while you get ready in the morning
Most days that don't start out with a solid jam session are probably really boring (I wouldn't know because I need to wake up and shake it off). Starting your day off with songs you love and make you smile is never a bad idea.
3. Take your time showering/taking a bath in the morning or night, it's your time
Rushing through your cleaning time is silly. Take time to dance a little in the shower or watch some Netflix while you take a bath. This is one of the few times during a day where you can totally be by yourself; so enjoy it.
4. Find a favorite outfit that makes you feel as beautiful on the outside as you are on the inside
And wear that outfit as often as you like! Who cares if you wear those jeans five days in a row, you look amazing. You are flawless. (Just remember to wash your favorite outfit.)
5. Keep your favorite book (or books) nearby to read at a moment's notice
It's really easy to get wrapped up in our technology filled world, so being able to escape to the world of our own imagination is always a great way to detach. Go back and re-read "Harry Potter and the Deathyl Hallows" for the 1,000 time, you'll feel a bit better after the 200th page.6. But if reading isn't your thing, watch a movie or binge watch your favorite TV show
While sometimes a good old fashioned book is a great way to escape, there is nothing like watching "A Walk to Remember" or "How I Met Your Mother" on a day when you're feeling a bit down.
7. Go outside and get some fresh air
Yes, the indoors is pretty fantastic but there is nothing like the great outdoors. Go on a hike with some friends or go relax on the beach. A little Vitamin D and oxygen never hurt.
8. Exercise and get moving!
Exercising may not be everybody's "thing," but once you get into a healthy routine of doing a workout that you like your body will be thanking you! It can be anything from taking a stroll in the park, to practicing yoga or taking a spin class! It's up to YOU to decide which activity makes you feel kickass.
9. Get in a car, or a bus, or a plane and go on an adventure
For some this may be a little scary or nerve-racking, but taking an adventure and seeing some place new is a great way to discover a new part of who you are. It doesn't have to be a trip around the world, but sometimes just traveling a few miles away to a hidden gem can do the trick.
10. Spend time with those you love and make you genuinely happy
While this seems like an obvious one, sometimes we surround ourselves with people who don't actually bring joy to our lives. Find those who make you smile and empower you, and then hold onto them forever.
11. And support those who support you
Always remember to support and empower those who support and empower you. It's an age old lesson: treat others the way we want to be treated. So give that love to those who love you.
