Recruitment can be a stressful time for both sides of the field. As we get closer to time, Potential New Members (PNMs) can get very stressed out. From worrying about what to wear, and what conversations you’ll have, to worrying about the zit you can feel coming on right in the middle of your forehead--every little thing can stack up to stress you out.
To make it easier, I’m going to go ahead and tell you that AOII doesn’t want you…
AOII doesn’t want you to feel stressed… because we are a dynamic group of women who all come from different backgrounds. We all have different personalities--from the loudest extrovert to the shyest introvert. We have sisters who work extra shifts at their retail job to pay their dues, and sisters who have help from their parents. We have the craftiest of the DIYers and the sisters who have couldn’t draw a stick man if their life depended on it. So when it comes down to it, there is no reason for you to stress because we know that no matter what conversations we have or what color dress you wear, every PNM going through recruitment is wonderful and we want the best for you all!
AOII doesn’t want you to feel alone… because as sisters we create a bond and always have each other’s backs. Recruitment can leave you with a lot of decisions, and no one can make them but you. At times it can be hard and frustrating, and maybe even a little lonely. We want you to know that no matter what you’re never alone. In Alpha Omicron Pi, you can always find a sister who is there to make sure you never have to go far to find a warm hug and a friendly face.
AOII doesn’t want you to be a face in the crowd… because we all have great talents and wonderful attributes that set us apart. We strive to “Exceed the Expectation." No matter what activities are close to your heart, AOII is there to encourage you and help you be the best version of yourself you can be. We have sisters in radio broadcasting, journalism, on-campus organization leadership, Southern Ambassadors and more.
AOII doesn’t want you to be anyone but you… because you are the only person that can see the world exactly how you do and use your perspective to make it a better place. Vision is what makes our sisterhood, our university, and our whole world better. No one has the same ideas or perspectives that you do and it is important to own who you are. We recognize that and encourage all of our sisters to be themselves. We are a group and we share a similar identity through AOII, but we are not all the same.
So going into recruitment, just know that AOII doesn’t want you… to be anything less than yourself. You have no reason to worry, because no matter what, joining a sorority is a wonderful experience where you learn more about yourself than you ever imagine you could.
