Anxiety comes and goes in all sorts of fashion. Some people lose control and can't see tomorrow when it hits them. Others have meltdowns that last minutes. Some people experience more anxiety than others, but at the end of the day, it is all the same fearful pain. It's time that we begin to look for a more permanent fix.God’s word tells us to not worry about tomorrow for it worries about itself. Trust me, I know this is hard. Especially when it means giving up control. Philippians 4 is where it is at. God’s word is constantly surrounding us with comfort. We just have to be willing to sit back and relax more. I’ve chosen to highlight a few verses from this chapter that speak to me when I’m feeling surrounded by anxiety.
1. Philippians 1.
“Therefore, my brothers and sisters, you whom I love and long for, my joy and crown, stand firm in the Lord in this way, dear friends!”
I love this! It’s so amazing to know that my God treasures me. My God wants me to know that I am loved.
2. Philippians 5.
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God."
The worst thing is feeling like you’ve had such an overwhelming day and you have no one to vent to, but in all reality, He is listening to you.
3. Philippians 8.
“Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.”
Honestly, this one is simple. Be the best YOU that you can be. Honor God through your actions. I’ve noticed that my anxiety lessons when I begin to pour into those around me.
4. Philippians 12
“I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation.”
Be content in everything. The best thing to lessen my anxiety is to stop and soak in what is going on around me. Why worry about things that are out of my control.
5. Philippians 19.
“And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.”
Never lose sight of this command. God says, “Ask and I will give.” I mean of course within reason, but you should never hold back. He wants to know why your heart is weighted down.
So I challenge you to give up anxiety and see how freeing it becomes for you. Personally, when I begin to feel anxious about any given situation, I always look for a quick fix. I want to be able to forget about whatever it is that is making me anxious. I'm sure you can relate, but what if we faced it? Go ahead, give Him a try. In the end, know that you matter. Your worries matter to God because they are part of you.
