For some of us, Spring Break is only a few (or two) weeks away and the incessant talk of losing 5 pounds to prepare a spring break body is all but underway. It's easy to get caught up in negative body image and body shaming; I've even heard a few "If only I had smaller legs" and "Why can't my stomach just be flat?" But, ultimately, we're just putting ourselves down all for the sake of a bikini pic on the beach or a pic in a sports bra while hiking.
It's easy to sit around and scrutinize our bodies all day, but these are some tips that are more productive than thinking badly about our bodies:
1. Go on a walk with a friend
The endorphins from a long walk will make you feel better about yourself and getting to catch up with friends instead of sitting inside studying is always a good idea. Just taking a break from the busy schedules we all have can instantly put us in a better mindset.
2. Make a Pinterest Board
Instead of looking up "health and fitness" on Pinterest, spend your time on the "women's fashion" explore page and find ideas for cute Spring Break outfits. Nothing will make you feel better than thinking about fun nights out in a new outfit - and the retail therapy from buyable pins will make you forget all about a bikini picture.
3. Study
The week before Spring Break is always filled with term papers and midterm exams, so by spending time studying instead of scrutinizing the shape of your booty will always bring more positive outcomes. What a better way to celebrate a good test score than being able to have fun on Spring Break - you just have to get through that last week.
4. Make cookies with your friends
Instead of kicking yourself for eating a pint of ice cream, make cookies with your friends! There's something more acceptable about eating in a community instead of eating alone in your dorm room, plus it's always nice to have people to share your love of cookie dough with.
5. Take an excessive amount of online quizzes
Why not spend your time learning what "your hogwartz house based on your zodiac sign" instead of fat-shaming yourself. There is something so relaxing and entertaining about finding out who your Gossip Girl crush is, and discovering what cake you are based on "these five questions." So spend a few minutes on mindless quizzes instead of looking in a mirror.
There are a lot of things we worry about when the idea of taking a picture in small amounts of clothing, but taking time to just be happy or spend time with our friends will be a lot more productive. Plus, who cares what you look like in a bikini on the beach? We're all just there to have fun and spend a week away from responsibility.
