An Open Letter To Those Who Do Not Believe In Themselves

Dear those who do not believe in themselves,

There comes a time in our lives that we begin to see ourselves in a dimmer light. As we grow up we enter parts of our lives that become more challenging and demanding. As we enter those, we begin to feel that maybe we cannot achieve what we once thought we could. We have all been there so you are not alone. Some of us are challenged with that now, and will in the future. Some of us have constantly struggled with it. Although that may seem to be a bad thing, there is nothing wrong with that. We are our biggest critic. We all judge ourselves in many occasions. It's a natural human thing that we all do. When I was younger I had issues with depression and anxiety. I still do but I try to keep that optimistic mindset. Even though there is optimism, negativity still gets through. I sometimes feel that I will not be able to achieve the goals I have set for myself or I'll never get to where I want to in life. I used to tell myself I could not do this or I could not do that. Till this day I still find myself telling myself these things.

In today's society the exceptions to achieve our goals is outrages. The reason for this is because we allow those around us to influence us. Yes, some of us are being influenced in a positive way but looking at high school student, they get caught up in the cliques and the urge to fit in. That leads to the pattern of negative factors. People get inside our head and we begin to doubt ourselves. We get stuck in our head and do not know how to get out.

Fear, we all know what that word means. When it comes to believing in ourselves fear gets in the way.

* Fear of failure

* Fear of not getting what you thought you could

* Fear of not being accepted

* Fear of not achieving

* Fear of the unknown

Fear is one of the biggest factors that hold us back for reaching what we are capable of. It prevents us from taking advantages of new opportunities and exploring what is out there. Believe me fear has nothing on you, you can overcome that fear, take advantage of new things and step out of your cozy comfort zone.

Here's to those who do not believe in themselves:

Accept that where you are now is not the end of where you could be. Forgive yourself for the mistakes that you have made. Do not allow those mistakes to stop you from trying again. A few mistakes do not mean everything is going wrong. Take a stand against the fear that is inside your head; surround yourself with positive and optimistic people to encourage you. Most importantly stop comparing yourself to your peers and others. You are not them, you are you own person with your own skills and abilities.

I wish you the best now, tomorrow, and forever. May you achieve all that you put your mind to. Never stop believing you can.

Sincerely,

The girl who believes in you

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
