An Open Letter To The President-Elect

The next four years are going to be interesting.

Dear Mr. Trump,

Now that nearly two weeks have passed, I feel as if I can finally say my peace regarding the madness that was the 2016 Presidential Election.

On the morning of November 9, 2016, you became the US President-elect after winning 271 electoral votes. This was something that many people were not expecting. Now, in just over 2 short months, you will hold the same title 43 great men once held. To say you have big shoes to fill is an understatement. This decision has made many ashamed, worried, and, in some cases, fearful. You have a lot of work to do over the course of the next 4 years. A lot is at stake.

I will be first in line to say that I was never a supporter of yours. Your thoughts on guns, immigration, abortion and the environment could not be more different than my own. Your comments towards women made me uncomfortable. Your mocking of the mental disabled infuriated me. Your opposition towards Muslims saddened me. Mr. Trump, you have given me no reason to respect you in the slightest. You failed to earn my vote, along with the majority of America’s vote. I am not happy with the outcome of this election.

But I will not say you are not my President.

I do not have the power to make things different and come January 20 you will be the President of the United States. A title I hope you’ll take pride in. With seemingly every person in the world waiting to see how this all unfolds, I hope you do not let this wonderful country down. Despite my dislike, I will be rooting for you. To wish for your failure will only hurt the country even more than it already is. I want you to succeed. I want you to prove me wrong. I want you to be good President.

This is not a business, Mr. Trump. This is over 300 million people’s home. Your actions and your words will have consequences. Please understand that. I am trusting you to stick to your word of being a “president for all American’s.” We need that now more than ever. This election divided people to an extent I have not seen in my lifetime. The hatred that is being spread due to your campaign, frightens me. But I am more frightened by what will happen if you do not stick to your word in reuniting this country and that hatred continues to spread.

Mr. Trump, I wish you nothing but luck. You will soon be in charge of one of the greatest countries on this beautiful Earth. I will be supporting you every step of this journey, just like I supported Hillary.

Sincerely,

A 19-year-old Democrat

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
