In the famous words of the rapper, Webbie, "she got her own house, she got her own car, two jobs, work hard, she a bad broad." We are at a time in our social zeitgeist where women are finally being celebrated. Women are finally being acknowledged for taking control of their own lives and succeeding at it. This letter is dedicated to all of the women that have stood up and said, "I am a strong independent woman, and I don't need a man."
This letter is a reminder to those women that it's okay to work two jobs, pay for your own utilities, and still maintain above a 3.0 every semester while involved in extracurriculars. Actually, that is commendable. Because you have a job and pay for your own things, you know the true value of a dollar, and that is knowledge most people need to know but have no clue about.
No one ever tells you that it's okay to not be in a relationship right now. You are saving yourself for someone that values you, your work ethic, and all of the wonderful things you have to offer. You are more focused on your well bein, and that in itself is something to be proud of. Please, do not feel bad for yourself.
You know, if you want something done right, you have to do it yourself. This may sound snobbish, but that is all you know– and that is okay. When no one else is there, you know at the end of the day, you can count on yourself.
Here's to you for never asking your parents for money every time that you are short or never asking them to pay for your overpriced school books. You always managed your money well, and somehow every semester, you always have enough to make it. I promise you, your parents notice– they are very proud of you for that.
Last but not least, I am personally proud of you for never giving up when all you wanted to do was cry in a dark room. It is a cold, hard world out there, and you manage to wake up and stand up every single day and take on the world without asking for anyone's help. I know it feels like no one ever acknowledges you for that, but I am here to tell you that someone is out there watching and silently admiring you. They may never tell you that you are fabulous, but I am here to say that you are amazing, and I am proud of you.
It may seem like independence is hard, and it can be most days, but there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Your autonomy will be the aspect of yourself that makes you different from everyone else out there.
So, congratulations you are the bomb dot com, and no one can ever take that away from you!
