Dear Christian,
Let me preface this before y’all jump out of your pants. I am a Christian. I strongly believe homosexuality is a sin according to the Bible. However, something has come to my attention. Actually, I have noticed it for a while, but I finally decided to say something because that’s what adults do, right?
Now I am not one to rant on Facebook about political ideals or beliefs, nor am I one to post demeaning memes about either political candidate. I also am not one to look down on others for their beliefs, ways of life, and so on.
And as a Christian, neither should you.
Stop judging the LGBT+ community.
Before you whisper into your neighbor's ear about “did you see what that ‘Christian’ girl posted about,” hear me out. I know every Christian is not the same, or else I myself wouldn’t be writing this. I also know what the Bible says about sex and marriage. Six years of private school sure did teach me well.
Leviticus 18:22 says, “Do not practice homosexuality, having sex with another man as with a woman. It is a detestable sin.” (NLT)
I got into college. I can read what the verse says just as well as you're reading these words here. God calls men to be with women, and women to be with men. But hey, while you’re busy picking which parts of the Bible you want to read and which parts you wish to ignore, read this verse.
James 4:12 says, “God alone, who gave the law, is the Judge. He alone has the power to save or to destroy. So what right do you have to judge your neighbor?” (NLT)
God doesn’t need you to judge other people; He can do that all by Himself.
Shocking right? God really doesn’t need me to judge others? This is where most of the judgmental Christian’s roll their eyes and exclaim, “But their sin is worse than mine!” Let me give you a little reality check, honey, his/her sin is NO worse than yours. Not even a little bit. It is SO easy for us to say “being gay is worse than being a liar” or “cheating is worse than stealing.” But seriously, take a lap, regroup, and read what God has said instead of what you want Him to say. Sin is sin and I don’t understand why that is such a hard concept to understand.
Actually, what I don’t understand is why a God-fearing human being would even dare think it is acceptable to judge a man based on their sexual orientation. People don’t just wake up one day and choose to be gay. And God help those who want to “pray the gay out of people.”
When you do this, you’re asking THEM to change who they are just because YOU aren’t comfortable with it, and you ought to be ashamed.
You don’t have to agree with the way they choose to live their life, and I’m not asking you to. Look at the Bible. Jesus went out of his way to meet people where they were at. If a perfect, blameless God could go out of His way to meet us at our lowest, most devastating moments; how hypocritical of you is it to not meet others wherever they may be?
This jaw dropping idea of not judging the gay community doesn’t make me a liberal, it makes me a decent human being. I wouldn’t want someone to judge me based off of personality traits I didn’t choose, would you? Let’s take a step back and remember that sin is sin. I sure am not perfect; but hey, if you are, go ahead and throw the first stone.
