An Open Letter To The Boy Who Deserves Me

In a society where relationships are constantly trivialized and easily crumbled, it's difficult to find someone worthy of your time and companionship. When you do find that special person, however, you should cherish them with everything you have.

So, to the boy who proves to me every day that he is more than worthy: Thank you.

Thank you for helping me realize how I deserve to be treated as a person and as a partner.

It wasn't until you treated me with respect and truly valued me that I was able to recognize how I've been mistreated in the past. It's a wonderful feeling to know that I'm truly appreciated and loved, and I hope you feel the same.

Thank you for allowing me to grow as a person alongside you, but not because of you.

Even though we're very different in a lot of ways, you allow me to focus on myself without feeling selfish. And, although our paths also differ, we're still able to support each other as a team while being our own people.

Thank you for bringing out the best sides of me that were always there beneath the surface.

You make me laugh like no one else can, and you bring out a silly side that doesn't always easily shine through.

Thank you for making me a priority, but not consuming me.

It's easy for people to get carried away in today's society. But, you encourage me to have my own independent life, while still making me feel like I'm important to you. I never feel suffocated, but I also never have to question what I mean to you.

Thank you for always being there for me, but backing off when you feel you need to.

You know me too well. Sometimes I need attention and comfort, while other times the situation should simply be left alone. You always know which route to take for the best possible outcome.

Thank you for understanding the importance of family and friends, and helping me to be balanced.

My friends and family have been there from the beginning. They will always be there and I love them dearly. You understand and accept this, never trying to tear me away from them or replace them. Instead, you've found your own place in my life and it's perfect.

Thank you for standing by my decisions and sharing my proud moments.

You're the first person I want to tell good news to, because you show me that I deserve to be proud of myself. You encourage me to follow my instincts and assure me that you'll always back me up. And, I want you to know that I'm proud of your accomplishments, too.

Thank you for learning the little things about me and using them to better our relationship.

We've come a long way since the beginning, and I learn new things about you every day. I'm glad you can look at my strange habits and annoying tendencies in a positive light.

Thank you for understanding that we're not perfect, and talking through issues until they are resolved.

After all, you are a boy and "talking things out" isn't always your go-to. But you've realized that sometimes I need that and you're willing to listen to me vent.

Thank you for being considerate but honest in your opinions when I need advice.

I don't always expect you to agree with me. Just because I think I'm always right, doesn't necessarily mean that I am. You shut me down in the nicest of ways and challenge my thoughts and opinions.

Thank you for trying to please me but never losing yourself in the process (because I would never want you to).

I've picked up on some of your phrases and you've caught on to my sense of humor, but you've never strayed from who you truly are. I know that you want me to be happy, but I'm so glad that you don't change yourself in your attempt to make that happen, because that makes me happy.

Thank you for considering my past and helping me to create a better present and future.

You know everything there is to know and you only want the best for me.

Thank you for acting like a gentleman without wanting anything in return.

You never make me feel like anything less than a lady, and I am always enough.

Thank you for knowing all of my flaws and still choosing to love me.

And more importantly, thanks for choosing to like me despite my flaws.

Thank you for being my best friend.

I appreciate you more than you know.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
