Dear Ex-Boyfriend,
I gave you everything. I opened up my entire world to you, showing you everything about who I was. I didn’t sugarcoat my life; for you, I was the uncensored version. I gave you the truth because trusting you was so easy. I told you about my past and about those who had hurt me. I told you my fears and dreams and you listened. When I stumbled, you caught me. Whether you were two hours away or two miles away, I knew I could count on you.
We’d talk for hours about nothing at all, making fun of each other for the dorky faces we made. You’d take silly pictures with me and we’d laugh about them. You called me beautiful when I didn't feel beautiful. Even without makeup, you said I looked pretty.
Before I met you, I was insecure. But you changed that. You made me see myself as a confident woman.
Then, you changed. I made up excuses as to why the good morning texts stopped. I tried to pretend we weren't growing apart. I knew you were busy, after all.
When the fallout happened, you didn’t even tell me. You fell for someone else and I still don't know why. You promised me you’d never leave. Yet here I am, without you, after everything you said.
It took me a long time to forgive you. I spent nights trying to figure out what I did to make you walk away.
Deep down, I knew it wasn’t my fault. It was yours. I had never done anything wrong to make you walk away. When I finally forgave you, I couldn’t even tell you. You were gone.
I want to thank you. You may have caused me a lot of pain, tears and sleepless nights, but I became a stronger woman because of you. I don’t ever want to forget that.
I hope someday you can read this and understand. I may have been upset and tried to find out why, but your silence said more than words can say. I can only hope that one day you wake up and realize all that you missed out on. And maybe, just maybe, you’ll regret that day you walked away from the girl who loved you.
Sincerely,
The Girl You Left
