An Open Letter To Say Goodbye

To the friends that I'll miss when leaving for college.

An Open Letter To Say Goodbye

The first of us left for Arizona this week and I thought it was a good time to share how I feel about all of you and how much I’ll miss you.

To the girl going to Arizona, we are all confident that you will succeed in anything you want to do. I have the feeling that you might decide to change your major one or more times just because you succeed too greatly in so many different areas. Think about taking up a minor or a double major, because if any of us can do it it’s you by far. Be the social butterfly that you were throughout high school and make as many friends as possible. Never lose the trait of being the kindest of us all. Stay a confident, beautiful person and remember that New Jersey will always be your home. Friends since Kindergarten and friends forever, babe.

To the girl staying closer to home, you will be okay. William Paterson is a really good school and even if it isn’t your top choice, it will be a great one. Once you go to class and meet tons of good people you’ll be happy with the decision you made. Do yourself a favor and go to bed early; we all know it takes you a little longer to get up in the morning. You’ve known your major for a while and I am confident that you will study your heart out and succeed in it. Don’t hesitate to call or visit any of us if you want to. Although my triple is small, there will always be room for you to stay. I will miss you so much because you always found a way to make me laugh even when you weren’t trying.

To the boy going to Boston, I’ll miss you in a different way. I took advantage of your kindness all throughout the last two years of high school. You got me through the roughest times and nothing I ever do will be able to make up for that. I want you to know that I am so grateful for the time we spent together. Although we recently had a falling out, I wish you nothing but the best. I know I’ll see your name in the history books or plastered across News 12 someday. You’ll do great things and I hope our paths cross again in the future.

To my best friend going to Geneva, New York, you will be the star of the soccer team. It might take some time to reach that stop at first, but I know you have the motivation to get there. You are also a brainiac and will most likely change your major, too. I might be wrong because I can never get you right but I have a feeling you will end up in a completely different major than what you start off doing. You will be one of the hardest to say goodbye to, but I am confident that our crazy friendship will last through this time apart. The transition from being around the corner from each other to being five hours away will be such a weird difference but we’ll be fine. Good luck bean, love you.

To Miss Rowan, I’m sorry your school colors suck but any school that has you in it will be a, lack for a better word, "lit" school to be at. Being away from your comfy bed will be hard but I know once you make classes and get into the groove of being away that you’ll never want to come home. Well, maybe you’ll want to every once in awhile to see your dog, but that’s not the point. I’m confident that you will figure out your major some time with in the first year. We’ve been talking/facetiming each other for hours since the fourth grade. I can’t wait to hear all about your crazy stories and how you didn’t take anyone's crap. We’ve been friends since the third grade and have helped each other through the dumbest and hardest situations. I will always be here for you and hope you will be for me too. Good Luck Ney Ney.

To poster boy who is staying put for one more year, keep telling yourself that in one more year things will get better. You had the time of your life at school last year and I hope this one is even better. In certain aspects but not all, you know what I mean. I was the preacher for going into college without a boyfriend but you made me see things differently. We’ve had such a fun and thrilling summer together and I’m not worried about being three hours apart. I’ll miss you maybe more than anyone else but technology will make it a little more bearable. Keep your grades up and work your butt off. You’ll be okay and I’ll always be a phone call away.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
