An Open Letter To Myself

Because sometimes you need to remind yourself of a few simple things on life's crazy journey.

Hey, you.

Do you know how amazing of an individual you are? I know, times have been tough. You haven't always had it easy. But in the process of it all, it has shaped you into the person you have become. If you aren't who you feel as though you wish to become, don't fret. There is plenty of time to still search for who you are. As you continue to go through life's journey, remember this:

Love yourself.

I know, you could preach this to the choir all day, but sometimes it's easy to forget to love yourself, too. People will come in and out of your life, and that's OK. You'll be hurt. But remember that self-love will help you through those times.

It won't be easy, but it'll be worth it.

Success isn't something that is handed to you on a silver platter. You have to work for it. You'll have your ups and downs trying to make a career for yourself, but you are doing that hard work for a reason. "Do what you love, and love what you do."

It's OK to feel a little lost.

When going through change in your life, you might find yourself a little lost along the way. Just remember to pick yourself up, shake it off and continue on the road ahead.

Have fun — treat yourself.

While it is important to be serious, don't forget to take time for yourself and have some fun! Go on an adventure, a trip with friends or do whatever it is that makes you happy. Make memories along the way. Laugh a lot, sing along to the radio and have meaningful conversations.

Don't be so hard on yourself.

The world is hard on you enough, so why be that way on yourself? Don't make an enemy out of yourself. Be positive, even in the most difficult of times.

You are never alone. Ever.

Do not ever feel alone. It is so easy to feel this way. Don't let that idea swallow you whole. There is always someone out there to give you guidance. Reach out to someone when you feel this way.

It's OK to make mistakes.

Failure is a scary term and idea. But it happens, and when it does, just remember that it was a learning experience. Don't let any of your mistakes define who you are.

I hope you know how capable, brave and significant you are, even when it doesn't seem like it.

You are absolutely, positively, in every way perfect. You might just be one in seven billion, but you are different from the rest. You are important and capable of amazing things. Don't forget that.

Most importantly, don't ever give up.

Times and situations will test your abilities. Even when it seems like there is no solution or positive outcome, keep on fighting. It may be stormy now, but it can't rain forever. You are stronger than you will ever know, and will come out on top.

It's easy to lose sight of what's important in life. But don't forget to take care of yourself. Don't beat yourself down because things aren't the way you would like them to be at this time in your life. There is a saying that goes, "When you make plans, God laughs." So don't be surprised when change comes — no matter what kind of change it is. Be open to life, and I promise it'll be exactly what you dreamed it to be.

Love you always.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
