Hey Elephant,
This is a letter that I hope you read with an open mind and an open heart. You are the most important person in my life, even though you might not see it that way from time to time. I look up to you in more ways than just one, but, even though you may have five inches on me, please remember that I have five years on you. I've been through things that you are experiencing everyday. Being a teenager in the world today is not an easy thing to accomplish. You do an extraordinary job at being a humble and kind person to everyone around you. Your fellow peers at school could learn a lot from you. As you grow older, I realize that I won't be there for every milestone in your life, but that's okay. I will always be one phone call away. Since I cannot always be there, here is a list of things I want you to keep in mind as you start to grow through your teenage years.
Don't sell yourself short.
You are worth so much more than that. You're humble, kind, and very responsible. Do not let anyone ever take those things away from you, because they will always make you a better person. Be the most amazing golf player you can be, and it's okay to show off to the guys every once in awhile (just to keep them in line). And, of course, be that star softball player, whether your on first base or in left field.
Heartbreak sucks, but time heals everything.
Boys will be boys. Always remember that your Prince Charming is out there. It may take some time to find him, and now isn't that time. Focus on you and your friends, I promise the time will come.
Take small steps through this time in your life.
Take it from your older sister. I tried to take those long strides, but I fell along the way. I tried to hide it from you, but you aren't blind. Learn from my mistakes and use those to your advantage. Taking those huge steps is not, and will never be, the way to go. Enjoy this time in your life. (Also, communication is and will always be the best medicine).
Always listen to Mom.
I know she gets under your skin sometimes, but she is right about everything. She knows everything about you and me, and I learned that the hard way. Open up to mom, and let her in. Not only will she really enjoy that, but it will help you get through your hardest times.
Lastly, follow your dreams, whether they be small or massive. Chase them until you cross that finish line. You will always be the most beautiful person in my life, and I love you more than anything. I cannot wait to see you grow more and more each and every day.
With so much love,
Armadillo
