To the two wonderful dorks I call my little sisters:
We might be apart for most of the year, but I want you to know that I love you and am glad to have you both.
If it weren’t for all the princess movies and hours of Disney Channel, I wouldn’t have had the childhood that I did. I never would have been caught up on all the juicy celebrity gossip about which Jonas brother was dating Miley Cyrus, or the new drama happening in the life of Taylor Swift. I didn’t realize that all this information that you wouldn’t shut up about, or the movies that you made me watch, would help me when it came to conversations with girls in college. There have been a lot of times where I’ve been glad to say that I’ve seen all three High School Musical movies, multiple times, or been able to sing along to old Taylor Swift songs, because you sang them every time we rode in the car. The years of High School Musical and Hannah Montana have prepared me for the chick flicks that go with having a girlfriend. Thank you for giving me a chance to still be a kid. I still enjoy the occasional Disney movie and you give me an excuse to go see them.
Thanks for keeping me updated on your lives.
The random text on a Thursday or Friday telling me how you did at your track meet or the random joke that your teacher told you in class are a good reminder of home. I miss being able to watch your games or concerts, even though I may have hated them while I was home.
Also, thanks for putting up with me.
As many hours of Disney Channel as I watched, you had to suffer through your fair share of watching me play Xbox and seeing action movies. Thanks for at least attempting to play football with me in the yard and teaching me how to let you win at "horse," even though now you’d probably beat me. Thanks for putting up with me making fun of all your girly drama TV shows. Thank you for being interested in at least a few guy TV shows, even if it is only because you think the actors are hot. Thanks for dealing with all my messes; I know there were a lot of them. Thanks for letting me boss you around and doing the chores that I tricked Mom into making you do.
Never forget that no boyfriend of yours will ever love you as much as Dad and I do.
So, when they do something that makes you feel like you aren’t worth loving, remember that we always will.
Dating isn’t easy.
You’ll probably experience your fair share of heartbreaks before you find the man you’re going to marry. But, don’t forget that I’m always here for you if you need a shoulder to cry on or someone to scare some sense into your jerk of a boyfriend. I may be really protective, but remember two things: I only do it because I love you and I’ll still do it even if you hate me for it.
Even though I may be apart from you for months out of the year as I attend college, I’ll always be your biggest supporter, an ear to listen and someone to share gossip about school or stupid jokes that you heard from your teachers. I’ll always be there with an “I’m proud of you” text or advice on a phone call.
Thank you both for everything you do.
I wouldn’t be the man I am today if it weren’t for you two. I'm now a guy who loves watching action movies and playing Xbox, but still enjoys Disney movies. I'm a guy who listens to rock and rap music but can still rock out to Hannah Montana and Taylor Swift. So, thank you both. I love you more than you know.
