An Open Letter To My Future Little

To my perfect little one,

You don’t know it yet but I am already in love with you. I am in love with the idea of how close we are going to become. It may sound creepy now but I promise, this time next year when you are looking to take on a little you’re going to be thinking the exact same thing. You too are going to be anxiously awaiting the sister who is going to be your soulmate.

Right now you may be unsure about whether you want to be in a sorority or not, I know that is how I started out. I encourage you to do so. As the saying goes “From the outside looking in you can’t understand it, but from the inside looking out you can’t explain it.” Being in a sorority is so much more than the internet could ever tell you. You go from suddenly having close to no friends to having hundreds of not just friends but sisters. The best part is, they all love YOU and want YOU. They will be there for you in your time of darkness and they will dancing right alongside you when you are at your happiest. I want you to know that the very second I get to call you mine will be one of the best moments of my life. I cannot wait to jump up and down and take a bazillion pictures with you and brag about my amazing new little to all my friends. Prepare yourself though because I just might cry from all the excitement (I guarantee your grand big will). I cannot wait to go through all your firsts with you and watch you truly embrace what ritual means.

What you don’t know yet is I am a crazy obsessive crafter and if you don’t understand what that means for you, it really means you are going to be spoiled. Spoiled is even an understatement. Girl you are going to have sorority spirit pouring out of your ears. Once I’ve spoiled you I am going to start training you to do the same for your little(s), my grand-little(s). Crafting is important because it is an easy way for me to let you know that I am always there. Of everything I am telling you now, that is the most important thing to remember. I am ALWAYS HERE. Even at the very beginning, when our big-little relationship hasn’t been made official, know I am here. I will be there when your freshman year roommates suck (which at times they definitely will), when you get your first college A, when you need someone to hold your hair back after a long night, or when you need someone to tie it up for a fancy night out. I will be there right beside you when the guy you like turns out to be a total jerk or when the guy you thought you were in love with breaks your heart. I will be there for you through it all, no matter how trivial. I will remind you that you are the sun and deserve to be treated as such and that he is not worth your tears. I will always remind you that the answer to any question is to dance it out. I will do this all without a single complaint because you are my little one and I want to watch you achieve all the great things that I know you will. I want to stand beside you on your wedding day and I want to be there when you are celebrating your 50 years with our sisterhood.

So don’t talk yourself out of rushing because you have already got someone here who loves you and is waiting for you. I am already bragging about you and I cannot wait to meet you little one.

All my love,

Your incredibly anxious big

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
