Dear Coach,
I have played many sports and have had a great number of coaches. I just wanted to express that you are one of the best coaches I have ever had. Most coaches are either way too serious or not serious enough. You have figured out how to manage our small team into knowing when to be serious and when to have fun. I do not feel the pressure of overthinking aspects of the game. I feel confident in the way I play now thanks to you.
It is so important that you can coach us and allow us to have a good time too. Some of my favorite memories from the past year come from trips and games with you and the team. Half of the pictures and videos on my phone are of the random things that the team has said during the long trips to tournaments.
I was never allowed to talk on the bus when I played in high school, I was to instead find focus. I think that talking has improved my confidence and improved my mood about playing. Even before you were the coach, the trips were long and I would sleep the entire way there. I do not think I spent longer than 10 minutes asleep this season.
Not only do we have fun, but you can actually coach us. I know there are problems in my game, but you know how to fix them. I love the fact that you actually can show me what I am doing wrong and show me how to fix it. Most of the coaches I have had in the past only tell what is wrong and what I need to do to correct it.
Telling me does nothing, but showing me changes the entire game. I am so happy that you show me how to play, and you teach me new ways to approach a situation. I have learned so many things that I never really understood about the game. I always thought if it worked to keep doing it, but you have put purpose behind each decision I make while playing.
Another plus is that you care about us outside the game. You are always checking in on us and making sure we are doing alright. You are always positive, and you never go by without putting a smile on my face.
You check in on our grades to make sure we are doing well in our classes. I have been sick a few times, and you have always checked on me to make sure I was getting better. That one time I was trapped in my building because I had no way to get back in if I left, you brought me lunch. I know you would do anything for any of us, which is deeply appreciated.
All-in-all, you are one of the best coaches I have ever had in my many years as an athlete. I tell my friends about our trips and tournaments. I hope you remain my coach for my lasting years in college because I do not think that the game would be the same without you. Thank you for everything you do.
