Dear President Obama,

How? How are your eight years over? I feel like you just announced you were running, and everyone doubted you. I remember being in middle school and us all choosing who we thought was going to win the election for your first term. Fast forward through those four years and I was a senior in high school. I was capable to understand more about your policies and all that you stood for. But politics aside, there is so much that needs to be said. So many things you need and should be thanked for.

Thank you for creating hope.

Your election had brought something to this country that I don’t think we have seen in about 50 years. You brought hope. Hope for African Americans, hope for minorities and hope for all to come in the future.

Thank you for caring.

In every single thing you do, it is visible that you put your all. Your compassion, and unwillingness is inspiring to all who have been around for your presidency.

Thank you for picking Biden.

Out of the eight years in your presidency, the best thing you have ever done was before you won the elections. Your best decision was choosing Joe Biden for your VP. Joe has brought on the laughs for us all. Especially now with these memes, I have never laughed so hard.

Thank you for making us laugh and smile.

From you singing at the Apollo to meeting children on Halloween and having fun with them. You have continuously made me smile, and laugh in all that you do. You allow us to see who you are as a person, as well as our president.

Thank you (and Michelle) for showing us what true love looks like.

The two of you together are simply amazing. Its evident the love, compassion, and support you have for each other. Its visible that through all the two of you have gone through, your love has not wavered. You give us hope as well as expectations for our relationships. We all want to be a Michelle and find our Barack.

There are not enough words to thank you for what you have done these past years. But with Donald Trump soon coming into office, I will continue to hold on to the hope that you instilled eight years ago. I will hope that Trump will not fail. I will hope that he will be as open minded to you. I will hope that maybe someday we can change the constitution and get you a third term (lol), but mostly I will hope that this country will not take a step backwards. Through you we have made so much progress. So thank you. Thank you for your time, patience and hope.

Thank you, for being you.

Parks and Recreation excitedly gathered around a laptop at a table in an office setting.

The library. Club lib. The place every college student goes when they want to try and be a productive member of society. Who better to explain your experience than Parks and Rec?

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
