Dear unattached and single,

Congratulations! You've found yourself at a place you might not want to be, but where you definitely should be. Whether you've been here for awhile or it's a recent change, this is for the best. We spend so much of our lives running around trying to find someone to love and care about us but when do we stop and realize that we need to love and care about ourselves first?

It's hard to look around and be seemingly surrounded by happy couples, but if you take a closer look, a lot of those people aren't as happy as they're making it seem. Plus, being single has a lot of perks. Friendships will blossom, time becomes freer and the only person you have to look out for is yourself. Take the time to care for your well-being and treat yourself how you know you are supposed to be treated.

Getting to a point when the silence isn't too loud anymore and the thoughts of the person you once loved become more scarce, you'll realize how much more free you are. Physically and emotionally you're ready to take on the world once again. It can be scary to start on your own since it's probably been awhile but it's time. You'll make new memories that don't include the other person and soon those will be the only ones you care about.

Don't regret the time you spent with someone else, it was what you once wanted. But make sure you don't stay hung up on what you had. As hard as it is, moving forward is the best thing. Call your friends you've been neglecting, go outside and enjoy what the world has to offer. Do something you've always wanted to do but kept putting it off. You'll enjoy it more than you know.

It's important to love and care about yourself before loving and caring about others. You won't be single forever so don't worry about that. You should worry about giving yourself the support you need. In time, loving yourself and being confident in who you are will probably lead you to the next person in your life. But it's always when you least expect it. So for the mean time, treat yourself, hang with your friends, enjoy the time you have now because you'll never get it back.

Sincerely,

It's better to be single and find yourself than be with someone and lose yourself

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
