An Open Letter To My 15 Year Old Self

Dear 15-Year-Old Me,

I want to start off by saying that you have no idea how much your life is going to change. I know right now you're scared. You're already thinking about the future even though you're only a freshman in highschool, I'm here to tell you it's okay. It's okay that you don't know what you want to do yet, I promise, you end up figuring it all out. I am not going to give away your future plans after high school. I want to keep your future life a little surprise.

I know right now you feel annoyed, all freshman feel this way. I know how stressful high school can get, this is also normal. The next few years will not be easy. There will be twists, turns, new challenges and even accomplishments. You will lose and meet people you never thought you would.

Sophomore year you finally get into reading again. You start reading and years later, you still are. I am so glad you got back into this. I feel as if your sophomore year was a year of discovery. You were not a freshman anymore but you still were that young girl that wanted everything perfect. You need and will soon realize that it is okay to make mistakes. It takes a few years but you do it.

I feel like your junior year you finally start to see the light at the end of the long tunnel. You start to mature. You meet some great people and even if some are not in your life now. They made it better during that time. You start to really find yourself and see that you aren't that immature little high schooler. You're finally coming out of your comfort zone!

The one person who you thought was your true love is not your true love. It will take a year and six months to realize this but you do. Life is meant to have heartbreaks, you will be heartbroken but you learn how to move on. This may be one of the hardest things you will endure in high school but trust me you will rise above this.

Senior year is emotional. I know right now you are crying every time you hear a song about graduating. It will be super emotional when you have to say goodbye to all of the amazing people you met junior and senior year. You'll have two classes this year that will change your life, psychology, and chorus. It's going to be weird not going to classes and seeing the same people every day but they will always be in your heart. The lessons you learned from your classes will always stay with you. You made it through high school, you didn't think you would. You may be reading this right now and thinking that senior year will never come, I promise, it does and a lot faster than you think.

Lastly, I want to tell you that you are amazing. I am not being conceited. I do know that you feel like things won't work out or that your future isn't something you're ready for. The truth is, you're never 100% ready for anything in life. You have to go into every new experience with open arms. I am not going to tell you about your future plans, I want you to make your own future. I'll tell you this though, it's going to be wonderful. Do not give up in high school, you will get through it.

Climb the mountain that will be long to reach the top. I promise the view is breathtaking.

Sincerely,

Your Future Freshman In College Self

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
