Parents are people we often take for granted. The people that we know will always love us unconditionally, and that often times makes us neglect their love and support. Living independently for almost eight months, I have realized just how important my parents are, and have questioned what I would do without them by my side. This one’s for you, Mom and Dad.
You both have always known just what to say when I’m upset, or lost. You’ve let me ramble on and on about some new idea that I’m having, let me cry in your arms when I’m sad about something stupid, or about a class that I’m not doing well in. You’ve put up with my stubborn, occasionally arrogant personality, and helped to lessen those traits over the years. As cliche as it sounds, you’ve been there through it all, and not only because you own the title as my parents, but because you both are my best friends.
Thank you for allowing me all the mental health days, the birthdays and holidays, and every memorable adventure in between. Thank you for supporting me through every new diet I want to try, sport I want to pick up, and instrument I want to play. Thank you for not only supporting me, but for cheering me on every step of the way, and being there even when I fail (because let’s face it, I try a bunch of new hobbies pretty regularly, and they don’t all work out). Thank you for trusting me to make the right decisions, and always treating me like a mature adult, even when I don’t act like it.
Thank you for putting up with me when I can be a brat, for all the temper tantrums, and mental breakdowns, and thank you for making me more and more grateful of life everyday. Thank you for tolerating me when I call you both every morning because I miss the sound of your voices, and want to know everything that’s happening back home. Oh, and thanks mom for sending me daily pictures of our dogs, I really appreciate it.
Thank you both for giving me the life that I have now, and for being there with me through every new chapter. Thank you both for not only being my parents, but for being my friends. I love you more than you’ll ever know.
