Holidays seem to arrive earlier and earlier each year. I don’t know about you, but it seems as though many big box stores begin setting up their holiday decorations and products after the Fourth of July. This may be a slight exaggeration, but we, as consumers, are plagued with the early onset of holidays each and every year.
Because society is so focused on money, some of the most important holidays are often overlooked. Yes, I am talking about Thanksgiving. My mind knows that Thanksgiving tends to go unnoticed because it lacks promotional value. Simply speaking, Turkey Day doesn’t make money for companies, so it’s usually neglected. My heart wishes that we would just focus on one holiday at a time, and my tummy wants to place all the emphasis on Thanksgiving because have you ever tasted the delicious food that surrounds this holiday? The pilgrims did not journey all the way to Plymouth rock for us to glaze right over Thanksgiving.
Because Thanksgiving is regularly forgotten and generally gets lost between the ghouls and goblins of Halloween and the ornaments and presents of Christmas, this one is for you, Turkey Day- An ode to Thanksgiving because you deserve to be properly recognized, too!
Turkey Day is the only holiday where it is socially acceptable to wear stretchy pants.
Eating is encouraged, so you'll never be judged for wanting seconds, thirds or even fourths.
There's no better feeling than starting your morning by watching the annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade
Can't move from the couch? It's OK because the entire evening is spent watching football anyway!
You know what's even better than turkey? PIE!
Thanksgiving allows you to rest and relax before a long day of Black Friday shopping.
And catching up with long lost relatives reminds you just how normal you actually are. #Blessed.
Most importantly, Thanksgiving is time to be thankful for all of your family and friends because, turkey or no turkey, they are the ones who matter most.
And don't forget, Christmas is coming!
