The year of trials and tribulations, as most years are. You have grown this year and learned about new parts of yourself that you may have never see before. This may have been your first year in college, graduation year, the year of everything came together or the year everything fell apart. 2015 was the year that you gained confidence, lost friends, changed majors or moved across the country. All of these aspects of your life are okay, you're supposed to grow within a year, and even if you feel like you didn't...trust me you have.
This year you became a new person. You ordered coffee instead of tea, you read instead of sat in your phone, you told that person in the coffee shop you liked their shoes even though you were almost crippled with social anxiety. You got a congratulations letter or maybe sent in a resignation letter. You got fired and then re-hired. You burnt bridges and found new paths along the way that were better suited for you. You got married, broken up with, found out your sexual orientation, failed, succeeded and everything in between. This has been the year of you.
You are hoping for 2016 to be maybe a better year, one with more opportunities and success, but 2015 has been just that even if you can't see it. The struggles you went through in the spring, the mediocre months of summer or the joyful times of fall were molding and learning experiences. They molded you into the person that you are in this moment and that is something to be proud of.
There may have been distractions along the way or maybe paths that lead you to your success right now. But, where you stand right now in this moment is maybe not where you want to be or where you planned to be at, but there is a reason you are here and there is a reason to hold your head high for where you are at.
The end of the year is always bittersweet. We see people celebrating with their significant others, friends, and families to enjoy the end of something big. It's a weird concept really, the new year is just another day that we put so much emphasis on. How we will be better people, how we will change the world next year, go to the gym more, cut carbs, be with our families more or just change something drastically overall. But, for what? To say we were a better person than last year, that everything we did in the year prior didn't matter? To shame all our hard work and dedication for a new start? Be proud of your year. be proud of the embarrassing moments and the breakthrough or the breakdowns. Start to build up from the year prior instead of breaking it down and starting anew. Thew new year will be a great one if you want it to, but the year before was the one to be proud of. So thank you 2015 for all that you have given us and good riddance.
