Hey there,
This is an open letter. You clicked on this link, and now it's even more open. Thank you for broadening my letter's horizons. Who is this letter directed to? Nobody in particular. This letter likes keeping its options open. What is this letter addressing? Openness. Open letters nowadays are just too pas ouvert. My expectations never meet the reality, but I keep clicking on them.
My letter can look like anything you want.
Let's all take a deep breath. Let's not pigeonhole ourselves to one topic. We're going to talk about everything and anything all at the same time. I know that it sounds like an arduous task, but I think it's doable if we manage our time and keep our phrases laconic. I'm not quite sure how we're going to format this, but it'll all work out. Just hold my hand.
Let's start with recent events. The Powerball gave out a lot of money. The Zika virus is spreading rampantly. Flint, Michigan, residents were right about their water all along. ISIS is somehow recruiting people over Twitter.
I'm not a Scientologist, but let's discuss science. NASA's budget still isn't proportionate to their value. 2015 is the warmest year as far as millennials can remember. People are still looking for a new planet to replace the gaping hole that Pluto left in our hearts.
Although I know nothing about sports, we're going to talk about it. Handball is apparently a real sport outside gym class. Shots were made during a basketball game. Soccer is still called "football" in Europe. The Super Bowl is on my birthday again. Hold your birthday wishes; we have business to do.
Entertainment is a pretty broad category, so let's talk about political entertainment first. The Iowa caucus received an excessive amount of press. Some politician is guest starring on a late night show. Joe Biden has yet to cure cancer.
Taylor Swift still refuses to admit that trademarking "this sick beat" and other commonly used phrases was a waste of time. An unexpected number of celebrities died at the age of 69. Some celebrity couple gave their average-looking baby an unfortunate name.
I give up. This is too hard. My hopes for the future are all a lie. Maybe open letters were never supposed to be completely "open." Maybe they're stupid. I'm sorry. I retract that statement. I'm just a bit moody over my dreams dying. I wanted to be in a world where open letters lived up to their name, but I guess that it takes more than one to make change happen. Maybe Obama was wrong; maybe we can't do it after all.
Noelle
