Alpha Gam Might Not Be For You

Lifelong friendships aren't for everyone.

The moment I walked into Alpha Gamma Delta’s room on preference night I completely fell in love. However, this sorority might not be for you.

Alpha Gam might not be for you if you don’t embrace diversity.

One of my favorite things about my sorority is we aren’t looking for girls who are all the same. We embrace diversity and believe that’s something that sets our chapter apart from the rest. You won’t see 70+ girls who enjoy the same thing; we all have our differences. What keeps us together is our love and values we share for Alpha Gamma Delta.

Alpha Gam might not be for you if you don’t share the love of giving back.

We are passionate about giving back to our philanthropy, but not only that. You can see Alpha Gams giving back whenever needed. Writing letters to our troops, volunteering at local events, helping out a shelter, spending time at a food pantry, etc. Alpha Gams love to give back and give service all year.

Alpha Gam might not be for you if you don’t enjoy spontaneous sisterhood gatherings.

We will find every excuse to spend time together, and sometimes it can be very spontaneous. One minute we’ll be sitting in the chapter room having a movie marathon and then five minutes later we decide to go ice skating. You’ve got to be ready for anything because spending time with Alpha Gams can be full of surprises.

Alpha Gam might not be for you if you don’t appreciate the meaning of LIEP.

I can’t elaborate on that, but it's definitely more meaningful than LYLAS.

Alpha Gam might not be for you if you aren’t up for a challenge.

Being a part of Alpha Gam isn’t just showing up for chapter meetings. You attend events, you step up and become a leader, you give back to the community, you pay your dues, you build relationships with your sisters, and you live the values set forth by Alpha Gamma Delta. You inspire and impact the world.

Alpha Gam might not be for you if you aren’t willing to forgive and forget.

While living and spending time with 70+ girls all the time, not everyone gets along 100 percent of the time. If I said we did, I would be lying. What’s important to remember is that at the end of the day we are sisters; you shouldn’t let anything come between you. It’s important to move past silly drama and be willing to forgive and forget.

Alpha Gam might not be for you if you aren’t looking for everlasting friendships.

The girls you meet during your time aren’t there for just a season. There is something incredibly special about the girls you meet in Alpha Gam. If you aren’t prepared to open your friend circle and accept these girls for a lifetime then Alpha Gam might not be for you.

Alpha Gam might not be for you if you aren’t ready for a commitment.

Alpha Gam isn’t just for four years; it's for life. After you leave your local chapter and transition from an active to an alumni member, you are still a part of Alpha Gam. You’ll still remain in contact with your sisters and reminisce on old memories, you’ll be invited to alumni brunches and homecoming gatherings, you have the opportunity to become a pearl sister and serve as a mentor for new members, you’ll still “throw what you know” when you take pictures with a fellow sister, you’ll still be interested in how your chapter is doing, and you may even still rock some of your Alpha Gam tees. If you aren’t ready to make a commitment that lasts a lifetime, then Alpha Gam might not be for you.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
