Not Knowing What You Want To Do After High School Is OK And Actually Super Normal

Senior year of high school, the year of lasts as you finish out your high school career. A year that comes with lots of decisions to make about the years to come. I was once that high school senior, scared out of her mind because she had no idea what she wanted to do.

Well, I'm here to tell you that's OK.

In the fall of my senior year I got accepted to my dream school, and I thought I had everything figured out. I thought I had nothing to worry about since I was accepted into my dream college.

Boy, was I wrong.

Getting accepted was the easy part. Then, came the price tag, the fear of loans and everything in between. Later on in the year I thought about all of it and decided it was best not to go to that college.

It wasn't the right time for me, and I didn't feel like I would be at home there. So I sat down with my parents and decided on going to a two year college, just to get my associate's degree.

Now, I am still going to attend a college this fall, but what if I didn't want to?

After high school is such a scary time, and sometimes, we feel the need to go to college. It is like we are getting told that college is the only option, but it isn't. There are many options, such as a gap year, working a part time job or getting an apprenticeship.

Yet, if we choose those choices we get ridiculed by friends and family for not choosing a four year school. A four year college isn't for everyone, maybe it is a two year school, apprenticeship or even a gap year.

No matter where you choose to go after high school, we shouldn't ridicule someone for doing something we aren't. Everyone has a different path that they need to take, and they will find their way in their own time.

I would be proud to know anyone who is going to a four year college, a two year college, doing an apprenticeship or just taking a gap year.

We will all find our way, and I know it might seem scary now, but you will get through it. Not knowing what you want to do is OK. Having too many dreams is OK. And chasing after those dreams is OK.

No matter what you do He has a plan for you, and He will get you where you need to go. He has a plan for your life, even after high school. We are all placed in positions for a reason, just trust what He wants to do in your life in that moment.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
