"Be the change you wish to see in the world."

After Election Thoughts

This election year has been one helluva time. From the wild ride we had while feeling the Bern and dealing with the Zodiac Killer, to the final countdown days with Trump and Clinton; the political world has been crazy.

I'm sorry to my friends, family and strangers that are hurting. Just because the situation seems awful doesn't mean it is-- this isn't the end, only the beginning. Possibly (hopefully) not as terrible of a beginning as it seems.

Many of us are hurting, confused and angry with the results. Because of this, everybody is lashing out at who the other voted for. We need to step back and take a different look at the situation. Sure, some people voted because they are filled with hatred towards certain demographics-- but not everybody voted that way. The rest of us voted with our beliefs in mind, doing what we thought was best for us and our country. I will never encourage or promote hatred and there isn't one thing that can be done about who is POTUS now. What we can do as individuals is what matters now.

As an individual, I can continue to spread love and fight for the fairness and equality of others. Hate cannot win when love is in the fight. I won't back down to the hatefulness of others. I challenge you to not back down either.

I hope that Trump succeeds as our nation's leader. I hope that his success is not in further dividing the citizens of this nation, but bringing them together. I hope that the radical and hateful stuff he said was just talk. I hope he turns from his ways and paves a different path-- one of unity and compromise, compassion and consideration.

People can change. Maybe actually being in such a grand position will give him a new outlook and cause him to reconsider his previous stances. More than anything, I hope and pray that it does.

To those of you who don't seem to comprehend why so many are upset, take a step back and really think about why they're feeling the way they're feeling. We are all human. We are all God's children. Not supporting Trump doesn't equal not supporting God. It seems people were a bit confused about that during the election.

Maybe now that we have all witnessed the darkness, we can bring some light. Be there for your friends and family. Be there for strangers, struggling with this ordeal. Do what you can to empower others. Continue to strive for what is right and defy what is wrong.

"Be the change you wish to see in the world."

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
